Service bulletins for the 2021 Ford F-150

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SSM 500152021-09-04. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:DEFROSTER/DEFOGGER/HVAC SYSTEM; VISIBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some 2020-2021 Ford and Lincoln vehicles are equipped with an anti-fogging feature known as enhanced windshield anti fogging strategy (EWAFS). This feature automatically adjusts airflow in the cabin to prevent the windshield from fogging up and may be perceived by customers as irregular climate control functionality. To reduce fogging, the EWAFS functions include: the air condition (A/C) button may turn on and off automatically, recirculated air may turn off automatically in all air modes except MAX A/C, recirculated air may also turn on and off automatically in various airflow modes in order to improve heating or cooling efficiency, and in auto climate control, high humidity conditions may automatically engage A/C compressor, increase blower motor speed and/or direct more air to windshield. Continue to monitor the Workshop Manual (WSM) for EWAFS updates.
SSM 500062021-09-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; BACK OVER PREVENTION. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles may exhibit an inoperative camera and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) C1001:01 in the Sync Module (APIM), B115E:15 and/or B115E:31 in the Image Processing Module A (IPMA). This may be due to a loose coaxial cable or circuit connection. If only APIM DTC C1001:01 is present, verify connections between the IPMA and the APIM. If IPMA DTCs B115E:15 and/or B115E:31 are also present, verify connections between the IPMA and the affected camera(s). Refer to cell 145 of the online wiring diagram to identify affected connections. If all connections are secure, continue with diagnostics in Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 413-13B. For claiming, use causal part number 10E929.
SSM 499942021-09-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles may exhibit all modules on the HS2, HS3, HS4 and MS CAN networks not responding to the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) and modules on these networks fail the network test. Modules on the FD1 and HS1 networks will communicate with the FDRS. Vehicles equipped with a power opening/closing tailgate may also exhibit an inoperative power tailgate. This may be due to a gateway module (GWM) that is not configured properly. To correct this condition, download and run the GWM - Gateway Module A (GWM) Configuration application. For claiming, use causal part number 14G490 and applicable labor times from Section 10 of the Service Labor Times Standard (SLTS) Manual.

Some 2021 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine and built on or before 14-Jun-2021 may experience lack/loss of power with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0299 in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to the wastegate control actuator question mark upper linkage lever between the wastegate lever arm and the wastegate control actuator becoming disconnected. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to repair the wastegate control actuator question mark upper linkage lever between the wastegate lever arm and the wastegate control actuator.
SSM 499832021-08-02. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles may experience the IPC going blank or rebooting during an incoming or outgoing cell phone call. This may be due to the cell phone connected to SYNC having an emoji alongside the text of a name in the cell phone's contact list. If suspected, interview the customer about the concern happening during calls only with specific contacts. If confirmed, have the customer remove any emojis alongside the text of names in their contact list and re-evaluate. Inform customers that Ford is developing a software update that is expected in October. Let the customer know they can continue to drive the vehicle and schedule a follow-up appointment for repair in November. Once the update becomes available, contact the customer and confirm the service appointment is going forward. Monitor OASIS for updates.

Verify that DTCs are no longer present. If only the B15**:31, B15**:57 and/or B15A5:56 DTC(s) returns in the RFA after a self test, follow normal Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics, Section 419-01C.
SSM 499622021-08-02. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2021 Mustang Mach-E and F-150 vehicles may exhibit a Reverse Brake Assist Unavailable message after module programming has been completed. This may be due to a network interruption from programming or configuring modules, which can cause steering center find to be reset. When the steering center find is reset, this causes various features to become disabled. The steering center find can be relearned by driving the vehicle approximately 5 minutes above 18 mph (30 km/h) straight ahead on a flat surface with no steering inputs for a few seconds. When steering center is found the Reverse Brake Assist Unavailable message will go away.
SSM 499602021-08-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2021 Mustang Mach-E, F-150, Edge/Nautilus or Bronco vehicles equipped with SYNC 4 may have a customer symptom of the SYNC voice commands being activated without pushing the steering wheel switch. This may be due to the feature called Wake Word within SYNC 4. This feature allows the driver to activate the SYNC 4 system without pushing the steering wheel switch. Under the touchscreen Settings > Voice Settings the preferred Wake Word can be changed. The feature can also be disabled if the customer does not want the SYNC voice commands being activated without touching the steering wheel switch. This feature is not a defect. Do not submit a claim for this condition.

This may be due to opening the fuel door without pressing the fuel door release button. Prior to following normal diagnostics, first check that the fuel door release tappet is properly installed into the fuel door and that the fuel door closes properly and opens when using the fuel door release button. If the tappet has separated from the fuel door press the fuel door release button to eject the tappet from the latch then reinstall the tappet into the fuel door by pressing it into place with features aligned with the fuel door.
