Service bulletins for the 2021 Ford F-150

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

TSB 23-23412023-11-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. This article supercedes TSB 22-2388 to update the Service Procedure and vehicle model years affected. Some 2021-2023 F-150 Raptor vehicles may experience a rattle noise from the exhaust at the exhaust tailpipe actuators. This may be due to the exhaust tailpipe actuator valves rattling inside the muffler assembly. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) and install new exhaust tailpipe actuator and/or valve springs on the exhaust tailpipe actuator valves.
SSM 520502023-11-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE. Some 2021-2023 F-150 hybrid vehicles equipped with a 3.5L PowerBoost engine built on or before 01-Mar-2023 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with DTCs P237C, P2C22 and/or P2C23 in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to the exhaust heat exchanger bypass control valve. To correct this condition replace the muffler inlet pipe. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 309-00D Exhaust System - 3.5L V6 PowerBoost (CN), Removal and Installation. For claiming, use causal part 5A212 and applicable labor times in Section 05 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 514112023-04-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL. Some 2021-2022 F-150 vehicles may not be able to communicate with some emissions testing equipment. Engineering is aware of the concern and is currently working on a solution expected in 2nd Quarter 2023. Monitor OASIS for updates. As a temporary corrective action, technicians may attempt one of the following: (a) Leave the engine running when performing the emissions test, even when the machine prompts to shut the engine off. (b) If a Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) tool is available at the same location as the emissions testing equipment, use the FDRS tool to download and run the On-Demand DTC self-test on the audio front control module (ACM) and clear diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in the ACM, even if none are present. Then within the same key cycle, connect to the emissions test machine and perform the emissions test immediately.
SSM 509632022-08-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2021-2022 F-150 Raptor vehicles built on or before 06-Jun-2022 may experience a rattle noise from the exhaust near the exhaust tailpipe actuators. This condition does not affect vehicle durability and no additional diagnosis or service is required for this condition at this time. Inform customers that they can continue to drive the vehicle, and engineering is currently working on a solution for this condition that is expected in September 2022. Replacement of the muffler will not resolve this condition. Monitor OASIS for additional information and schedule service appointments for customers once the repair becomes available.
SSM 498052021-06-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2021 vehicles equipped with a diesel engine may have engine oil in the exhaust after turbocharger replacement for various reasons. To correct the condition, remove the exhaust and stand the exhaust up with the turbocharger inlet side facing down using a suitable drain pan. Allow the exhaust to drain for at least 24 hours and reinstall. Do not perform a manual exhaust regeneration.
