Service bulletins for the 2021 Ford F-150

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SSM 497382021-05-03. Service bulletin. STEERING; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY:VEHICLE CONTROLS:BRAKING. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a Reverse Brake Assist Unavailable message after module programming has been completed. This may be due to a network interruption from programming or configuring modules, which can cause steering center find to be reset. When the steering center find is reset, this causes various features to become disabled. The steering center find can be relearned by driving the vehicle above 10 mph (16 km/h) for over 10 minutes.
SSM 497122021-04-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles built on 06-Sep-2020 and through 24-Jan-2021 may experience the climate temperature control is inoperative or does not operate correctly. The vehicle may exhibit diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) B1081 and/or B1082 in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) module. This may be due to a software issue with the HVAC module. To correct the condition, update the HVAC module using the latest level of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. If the condition persists, refer to Workshop Manual, Section 412-00 and continue with normal diagnostics. For claiming, use causal part number 19980 and applicable labor times from the Service Labor Times Standard (SLTS) Manual.
TSB 21-20972021-04-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles may exhibit a discharged battery and/or no crank condition. This may be due to key off battery drain when the zone lighting power button is left enabled in the SYNC4 display or the FordPass app. A discharged battery or a no crank condition may also occur if a rear door is difficult to close causing the door to not fully latch, resulting in a door ajar being detected.
SSM 496252021-03-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2021 Mustang Mach-E/F-150/Edge/Nautilus vehicles may require a reboot of the SYNC 4 system. For vehicles equipped with a volume/power and right seek button, press and hold both the volume/power and right seek button for 10 seconds and the system will reboot. For vehicles not equipped with a volume/power button, holding the seek right and volume down buttons on the steering wheel controls will reboot the SYNC 4 system. The Workshop Manual (WSM) is in the process of being updated with this procedure.
SSM 495642021-03-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2021 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L engine may experience lack of heat from the HVAC system. This condition may be the result of a heater hose near the oil cooler being misrouted and/or twisted causing a restriction to coolant flow. To correct this condition, inspect the hose for damage and reroute the hose above the coolant hose running perpendicular then fill and bleed the cooling system following procedures in WSM section 303-03A. For claiming, use causal part 18472 and M-time.
SSM 494842021-02-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2021 F-150/Transit/Explorer/Aviator/Police Interceptor vehicles may exhibit a flashing powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator while in transport mode with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P112A stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to excessive engine starts while the vehicle is in transport mode. To correct the condition, deactivate transport mode. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 419-10 > General Procedures. Cycle the ignition to RUN. If the concern still exists, perform normal diagnostics in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual.
SSM 494772021-02-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2015-2021 F-150, 2016-2018 MKX, 2019-2021 Nautilus, 2015-2021 Edge, 2017-2019 Fusion, 2017-2020 MKZ And 2017-2020 Continental vehicles equipped with a 2.7L/3.0L EcoBoost engine may appear to have a low engine oil level if the proper procedures are not followed. Refer to the Owner's Manual > Maintenance > Engine oil check section. When checking the engine oil level after shutting off the engine wait at least 15 minutes prior to checking in order to allow the oil to drain back to the oil pan. The engine oil level can be checked immediately if the engine has not been started. When changing the engine oil the engine needs to be at normal operating temperature and the oil filter removed before draining the oil. Allow the oil pan to drain completely for up to 5 minutes. Check oil level after filling by following the oil level check procedure.

Do not attempt APIM, TCU or GWM reprogramming or replacement unless directed by a WSM pinpoint test. If the root cause of a concern is isolated to the APIM, TCU or GWM with all other possible causes ruled out, dealers must contact the Technical Assistance Center prior to performing repairs.
