Service bulletins for the 2019 Mazda Mazda3

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

MSP562019-12-20. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Effective immediately, MSP56 has been suspended until further notice. MSP56 was launched to prevent 2019 Mazda3 5dr vehicles from locking, if the keys are left inside the vehicle. There have been reports of Body Control Module (BCM) failures during the update process, and in the worst case scenario, a loss of vehicle mileage in the odometer. Until further notice, DO NOT update or reflash the Body Control Module (BCM) or LFU using MDARS unless directed by the Technical Hotline. Claims will not be accepted with repair dates beyond 12/16/2019. If the keys are accidentally locked in the vehicle because MSP56 was not performed, the liftgate opener will still open the liftgate and the keys can be accessed through the rear hatch.
MT-002-192019-12-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT. If an engine assembly is replaced after a catastrophic internal mechanical failure, clean the intake manifold internally before installing a replacement engine assembly. If the intake manifold is not cleaned properly, the replacement engine may fail prematurely. Metallic debris from the old engine (with catastrophic internal mechanical failure) may rest inside the intake manifold. When the new engine assembly is installed, debris in the intake manifold will be ingested into the new engine and cause internal damage.
07-002-19-3616a2019-12-20. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. A musty/mildew type odor may come from the vents when the air conditioning (A/C) system is operating. It is most noticeable when the A/C is first turned ON. This odor is the result of mold growth in the A/C evaporator/cooling unit which is caused by condensation, dust, and pollen within the cooling unit. This condition is usually worse during high humidity conditions. “Mazda Air Cooling Coil Coating” is available to encapsulate the mold to reduce odors. If the product is properly applied, it can effectively reduce the musty/mildew odor for up to three years. NOTE: See parts information for Mazda Air Cooling Coil Coating and Kit part numbers.
01-022-19-36572019-12-20. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. There is a concern that some water pumps are being replaced that are not faulty, due to signs of a very small coolant leak from the bleed hole. This Service Bulletin is to inform you about the water pump sealing mechanism and the criteria if replacement is necessary or not.
01-021-19-36492019-12-20. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some customers may experience the CHECK ENGINE light ON with DTC P0012:00 (Electric variable valve timing control system: Over-retarded) stored in PCM memory. NOTE: This concern occurs only on the vehicles with PCMs manufactured by MITSUBISHI.This is caused by improper control logic of the PCM detecting a false error. To correct this issue, the PCM software has been modified. NOTE: The VVT actuator is damaged by the improper control logic.
09-036-19-3623a2019-12-20. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; EXTERIOR LIGHTING; VISIBILITY; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some customers may complain about an instrument cluster warning message "Auto Light System Malfunction. Turn On/Off Lights Manually". DTC B10AD:09 (Humidity sensor/solar radiation sensor/auto light sensor/rain sensor malfunction) may also be stored with the exterior light warning indicator light ON. This is caused by the rain sensor detecting a temperature higher than the operation range and temporarily stopping the auto light system. As a fail-safe, the low beam headlights are turned on. The auto light system will start to operate normally when the A/C is turned on and the interior temperature drops. To correct this concern, the heat resistance performance of the rain sensor has been enhanced.
01-020-19-36412019-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some vehicles may exhibit an excessive body vibration when idling or driving after being left in extremely cold weather (-20°F or below) for a long time. This is caused by the No.1 engine mount (1) rubber hardening due to material characteristics. NOTE: This concern only happens in extremely cold weather, therefore this TSB is only applicable for extremely cold regions. To correct this concern, the cold environment performance of the No.1 engine mount rubber has been increased by changing the rubber material.
01-019-19-36282019-12-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some vehicles may exhibit oil leakage from the drive belt auto tensioner and rattling noises from the engine compartment. This may be caused by insufficient sealing at the drive belt auto tensioner damper when the auto tensioner fully operates under both high ambient temperature and high load conditions. To eliminate this concern, the shape of the drive belt auto tensioner damper has been changed.
SA-050-192019-11-24. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE. FSC dynamic aiming (mid-drive aiming) may not complete if the vehicle is driven on a road as described below: • The road lane markings are covered by snow and are not visible. • There are no road lane markings on the road surface. • The road is winding and the vehicle cannot drive straight (300 m / 984 ft or more turning radius is required). FSC dynamic aiming is completed if the following conditions are met: 1. "Forward Sensing Camera Calibration Mode" message (1) on instrument cluster MID disappears. 2.The i-ACTIVSENSE warning light (2) turns off. 3. Steps 1 and 2 are completed within 20 minutes from start of aiming.
SA-039-19a2019-11-24. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. During BCM replacement, MDARS may display a Configuration Error warning message. This may be caused by any of the following: • Poor internet connection • MDARS failure • Low Battery Perform the BCM Recovery Procedure below to manually configure the BCM.
MT-004-192019-11-24. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may complain about: • Intermittent engine no start • Instrument cluster red security indicator light ON • Engine Start/Start Button Amber indicator light flashing • Battery discharge • Electrical relay buzzing noise • DTC B13D3:94 (Communication error with remote transmitter) stored. This may be caused by: • A key in a purse near a cell phone. The cell phone radio waves may interrupt the immobilizer system. • An aftermarket cell phone charger. The charger may produce electrical noise that interrupts the immobilizer system. • An aftermarket GPS tracker. Some aftermarket devices that are wired to the vehicles’s wiring harness may create unusual electrical symptoms.
MSP272019-11-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH; EQUIPMENT. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Mazda Service Program (MSP) on certain 2019 Mazda3 5HB vehicles produced from November 6, 2018 through May 28, 2019. Concern Outline: On certain subject Mazda3 5HB vehicles with the advanced keyless function, all doors, fuel filler door, and the liftgate can be locked by pressing the door-lock switch on the liftgate. If the liftgate door-lock switch is pressed with the transmitter/key left inside the vehicle, all doors will lock and cannot be unlocked from the outside. The liftgate can be unlocked using the liftgate opener because of the lock-in prevention function. This was the original design of the vehicle with advanced keyless function, but the original design does not match customer’s expectation. It is difficult to retrieve the keys inside the vehicle through the liftgate especially if the rear seats are blocked (with two child seats, luggage etc.). Action Required: Reprogram the body control module (BCM) and low-frequency control unit (LFU) with M-MDS using Mazda Diagnostic and Repair Software (MDARS) for all affected Mazda3 5HB vehicles in dealer inventory, and when customers bring their vehicles for maintenance, or other service/warranty work. The subject vehicles should not be delivered to customers until the repair of MSP56 is completed. Please inform the customer that the BCM and LFU will be reprogrammed to the modified calibration, free of charge. The modified calibration prevents the vehicle from being locked if the keys are still inside. The dealer inventory list will be posted to MGSS by the end of today. Inventory vehicles sold with MSP56 in open status will have any PDI New Car Ready claim debited.
SA-046-192019-11-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. On the 2019 Mazda3 (BP) and and all 2020 Mazda vehicles (except CX-3), the CR2032 button cell battery is required for the new type remote transmitter. If it is mistakenly replaced with the conventional CR2025 used in the previous type remote transmitter, it may cause a malfunction. Verify the button cell battery type before replacing it.
01-018-19-36422019-11-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some vehicles that have a drained battery recovered may exhibit that the engine will not start and the ignition switch will not turn off. The following DTC's may also be stored: • U3000:49 - BCM internal malfunction • B10E7:12 - IG1 relay circuit malfunction • P0615:11 - Starter relay circuit malfunction. This concern most likely occurs on vehicles in a show room with frequent door operation and poor battery maintenance. For proper battery maintenance of show room vehicles, refer to SA-043/19.
SA-019-192019-11-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: SENSING SYSTEM: RADAR; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some vehicles may experience M-MDS (MDARS) showing the front radar dynamic aiming is incomplete, although the procedure is completed. This is caused by faulty front radar software logic and a mass production change is planned. If the screen below is displayed after the front radar dynamic aiming is performed, check the vehicle using the following inspection procedure.
07-007-19-36382019-11-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Some customers may complain about poor heater performance even after the engine reaches normal operating temperature. This may be caused by a plugged heater core. For 2014-2016 Mazda6 and 2013-2016 (US spec) / 2017 (Mexico spec) CX-5, the CHECK ENGINE light may turn on with DTC P011A:00 (ECT sensor No.1/No.2 performance problem) stored at the same time. NOTE: Refer to TSB 01-015/15 if the customer is using a block heater at temperatures below freezing. To solve this concern, two mass production changes have been implemented. a) The concentration of the coolant has been increased so that the amount of the contained anti-rust additive is higher. b) The composition of the coolant has been changed (the ratio of the anti-rust additive has increased).
07-006-19-3629b2019-11-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some customers may experience that after starting the engine, the auto A/C blows warm air for about 10 minutes and then blows cool air as desired. This concern occurs when the ambient temperature is within a certain range (approx. 16-25 C / 61-77 F). This is caused by the control software of the Dash-Electrical Supply Unit (Dash-ESU) not being appropriate for this specific situation. To correct this concern, the control software of the Dash-ESU has been modified.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
