Service bulletins for the 2016 BMW X1
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| B652316 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.. ?AUDIO VOLUME NOT RESTORED AFTER MSA STOP, ENTRY HEAD UNIT. Volume of audio system (when set to near maximum) is reduced when Auto Start-Stop (MSA) stop occurs and is not restored upon automatic engine restart. This is normal system behavior - serves to protect the head unit, battery drain and avoidance of incremental leaps in the loudness. The loudness is reduced to 2/3 of maximum and is not restored. Note: Air conditioning output is also reduced upon MSA stop and is not restored for similar reasons. |
| B514116 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. RATTLE/BUZZ IN SUNSHADE. Passenger side mirror does not adjust itself out of the automatic parking function back into previous position when switching from reverse back to drive. (Only apples to vehicles produced up until March 2016) B. One or both mirrors adjust themselves to a seemingly random position. This occurs usually when the vehicle is unlocked after sleep mode has been active. The mirror will go to a position usually downward and inward (default position from factory). Note: Causes are separate and unrelated. Situation A- Mirror motor electronics module software version. (Only apples to vehicles produced up until March 2016) Situation B- Unintentional actuation of seat-mounted memory switch (the switch on this vehicle is mounted in a position where a customer can inadvertently press it when entering or exiting the vehicle), or the Personal Profiles settings have not been set to the customer's preferred mirror and/or seat positions. |

| B650717 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. "LIST OF AVAILABLE FM RADIO STATIONS TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE. INFORMATION As of 11/2015, all Entry-NAV/Media head units supplied in new vehicles were upgraded for improved noise characteristics and quality. As a part of this upgrade, the hardware updating the sender lists was changed from an "update after every diversity reception interruption or maximum of four minutes" configuration to "regular interval updates (every four minutes) without regard to diversity reception status" configuration. This may cause a delay of up to four minutes for updates to the sender list when leaving areas of poor reception. The last received transmitter, before the entrance into underground car parking or a tunnel, is still received and will show station identification. This fixed interval update does not apply to Traffic Message Channel updates which remain active. This new equipment operation pattern may be noticed by the customer after replacement of their Head unit. All replacement Head units delivered since 01/2016 have the upgraded design. An immediate solution would be for the customer to select one of their stored favorite stations via the menu or favorites buttons. PARTS INFORMATION Parts exchange or a software update are not effective or approved for this situation. WARRANTY INFORMATION Not applicable." |
| B620117 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. TIME DISPLAY (CLOCK) ERROR IN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. The clock on the basic instrument cluster (KOMBI) gradually loses time even after being reset. Power supply fluctuations cause the time to reset. |
| B511817 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. EXTERIOR BMW ROUNDEL EMBLEMS SEPARATE AND FALL OFF. The exterior BMW Roundel Emblem (front and/or rear) separates from the mounting base and falls off. Delamination of the Roundel Emblem. |
| B120717 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. ?SERVICE ACTION: PROGRAM CONTROL UNITS (DME). Due to an error in the OBD diagnostics of the DME software, a marginal catalytic convertor or post catalyst oxygen sensor may not be detected as faulty. |
| B120617 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. ?THE ENGINE WILL NOT START AND THE DME IS NOT RESPONDING. The engine does not crank or start and various Check control messages may be displayed. When performing diagnosis with ISTA Next the DME is not responding. Fault: S 0392 - No communication with engine electronics is displayed. Many other modules will have CAN faults stored due to missing messages from the DME (transmitter). Fuse 83 (5A) is open. When the turbocharger coolant pump is activated by the DME, the initial starting current could briefly exceed the 5A rating of Fuse 83 causing this fuse to blow. If this occurs the engine will stop and cannot be restarted. |
The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
