Service bulletins for the 2019 Mazda Mazda3
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| 09-017-20-3701 | 2020-05-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may experience that the door locks may not operate using the touch sensor on the outer door handle while parked in a parking space surrounded by concrete walls, but will operate when using the remote transmitter. This concern may be caused by refraction and/or diffraction of the signal used for the advanced keyless entry system by the steel reinforcement bars in the concrete walls. As a result, the signal will resemble a theft attempt (known as a Relay Attack) and the anti-theft function of the advanced keyless entry system will prohibit door lock operation. To eliminate this concern, the LF control unit software has been modified to reduce the improper detection of the theft attempt. |

| 09-016-20-3693 | 2020-05-04. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may find that they cannot lock their vehicle when using the touch sensor (shown below) on the front door handle, however, they can unlock the vehicle. This concern may occur after the vehicle has been recently washed and water has accumulated around the touch sensor, resulting in temporarily lowering the sensitivity of the capacitor sensor. To eliminate this concern, the shape and material of the rubber sheet attached to the touch sensor has been improved. |
| SA-021-20 | 2020-02-27. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:TRUNK LID; EQUIPMENT; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES. The Mexico built Mazda3 trunk has been disabled (interior and exterior switches do not work) during shipment from Mexico to help prevent theft of the key/fob and other accessories as center caps, SD cards etc.hidden in the trunk. This Service Alert describes the steps to retrieve that key/fob (if the key/fob in the main cabin is missing) and the steps for processing warranty depending on missing items or a missing bag. |
| MSP56 | 2019-12-20. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Effective immediately, MSP56 has been suspended until further notice. MSP56 was launched to prevent 2019 Mazda3 5dr vehicles from locking, if the keys are left inside the vehicle. There have been reports of Body Control Module (BCM) failures during the update process, and in the worst case scenario, a loss of vehicle mileage in the odometer. Until further notice, DO NOT update or reflash the Body Control Module (BCM) or LFU using MDARS unless directed by the Technical Hotline. Claims will not be accepted with repair dates beyond 12/16/2019. If the keys are accidentally locked in the vehicle because MSP56 was not performed, the liftgate opener will still open the liftgate and the keys can be accessed through the rear hatch. |
| MSP27 | 2019-11-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH; EQUIPMENT. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Mazda Service Program (MSP) on certain 2019 Mazda3 5HB vehicles produced from November 6, 2018 through May 28, 2019. Concern Outline: On certain subject Mazda3 5HB vehicles with the advanced keyless function, all doors, fuel filler door, and the liftgate can be locked by pressing the door-lock switch on the liftgate. If the liftgate door-lock switch is pressed with the transmitter/key left inside the vehicle, all doors will lock and cannot be unlocked from the outside. The liftgate can be unlocked using the liftgate opener because of the lock-in prevention function. This was the original design of the vehicle with advanced keyless function, but the original design does not match customer’s expectation. It is difficult to retrieve the keys inside the vehicle through the liftgate especially if the rear seats are blocked (with two child seats, luggage etc.). Action Required: Reprogram the body control module (BCM) and low-frequency control unit (LFU) with M-MDS using Mazda Diagnostic and Repair Software (MDARS) for all affected Mazda3 5HB vehicles in dealer inventory, and when customers bring their vehicles for maintenance, or other service/warranty work. The subject vehicles should not be delivered to customers until the repair of MSP56 is completed. Please inform the customer that the BCM and LFU will be reprogrammed to the modified calibration, free of charge. The modified calibration prevents the vehicle from being locked if the keys are still inside. The dealer inventory list will be posted to MGSS by the end of today. Inventory vehicles sold with MSP56 in open status will have any PDI New Car Ready claim debited. |
| 09-035-19-3637 | 2019-10-04. Service bulletin. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. If the body control module (BCM) or the LF control unit (LFU) has been replaced and configuration has been performed, communication between the BCM and the LFU may not work properly due to a difference of the software level. Symptoms: If the BCM has been replaced: Without a remote transmitter - the door lock switch at the liftgate will not lock doors, With a remote transmitter - the door lock switch at the liftgate will lock the doors even when the front or rear door(s) are opened, If the LFU has been replaced: Without a remote transmitter - the door lock switch at the liftgate will lock the doors with the answer back sound. |
