Service bulletins for the 2017 Ford Transit

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SSM 478742019-04-03. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE; SUSPENSION. When removing and installing a 2015-2019 Transit front subframe, the cage nuts located in the body of the vehicle may become damaged. If the nut spins in its cage when removing or installing the attachment bolts, the nut can be held with a socket through an access hole in the vehicles frame member. It may be necessary to bend the tabs of the cage up and away from the nut to allow socket placement. The cage nut has been released as a service part (CK4Z-61105A38-A) and can be replaced if damaged. The replacement nut can be removed from its cage and installed in the vehicle's original cage. It is not required to replace the cage as it is welded to the interior of the vehicles frame member.
SSM 478482019-04-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2015-2019 Transit High Roof Bus/Passenger Wagon vehicles may have a headliner that does not stay seated at the C and/or C and half pillar hard trim. A permanent repair solution for the existing headliners has been developed and is expected to be available via TSB by late 2nd quarter 2019. Continue to monitor OASIS for updates. In preparation for the TSB repair, encourage your parts department to locally source 3M 04747 Super Repair Adhesive and mixing nozzles 3M 38191 (12 pack) or 38193 (50 pack) if you anticipate performing the upcoming repair. Do not fabricate alternative headliner attachment methods as an interim repair. Headliner retention in these areas is intentionally delicate to allow for proper side curtain airbag deployment.

Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may exhibit front seat safety belts that do not extend or retract properly or may exhibit an abnormal noise. Verify if the vehicle has been modified, in particular if a bulkhead partition between the front seats and cargo area has been added to the vehicle. Fasteners or holes in the lower b-pillar are indicators that the seat belt retractor mechanism could have been compromised. If diagnostics lead to retractor replacement, inspect for drill or screw holes in the retractor housing. Damage to the seat belt retractor caused by a vehicle modifier is not warrantable.
SSM 477122019-03-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty and 2016-2019 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018-2019 F-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.
SSM 477112019-03-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2016-2019 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 and a 6, 8 or 10 inch screen may show a pop-up message every key cycle that states 'SYNC can check for updates when connected to a WiFi network'. To remove the inconvenience of the pop-up the customer can either connect to a trusted WiFi network to complete the setup process or turn off WiFi in the WiFi settings located under the Settings menu. Adjusting the setting for the customer is not a warrantable defect.
SSM 477472019-03-04. Service bulletin. STEERING. Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may exhibit a power steering fluid leak at the steering pump or gear. This may be due to a cut or damaged O-ring on the power steering line connection. To repair, refer to parts catalog call out 3334 for service kit BK2Z-3F886-A which contains all four O-rings utilized on the line assembly connections.
SSM 476732019-01-07. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2016-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel may indicate a blank PCM when connected to the Ford diagnostic scan tool. Do not replace the PCM. As a work around to access the PCM, remove the key from the ignition for 1 minute. Then remove the PCM relay in the battery junction box. Reinstall the PCM power relay, then put the key in the ignition and turn to on and attempt to access the PCM. Engineering is investigating the issue. Monitor OASIS for updates.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE. Some 2011-2019 F-Super Duty, 2015-2019 Transit, 2016-2019 F-650/F-750 and 2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L, 3.2L or 3.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P207F, P20EE, P229F, P2201 and/or P24AE. This may be a result of using aftermarket cleaning liquids or tools for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or intake. Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter (PM) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the aftertreatment system. Use of these cleaning tools may void the emissions warranty of the hot end aftertreatment exhaust system and the attached emissions sensors.
SSM 475432018-12-03. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING. 2015-2019 Transit vehicles equipped with dual rear wheels (DRWs) have a high mount rear marker lamp that does not illuminate with the stop lamps. In prior versions of SYNC 3 software this menu was present, however in version 3.0 software the Android Auto Preference menu will only show up once an Android Phone has been initially connected to SYNC. This an operating characteristic of the Android Auto application after the SYNC 3.0 update and no repairs should be attempted.
SSM 475272018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may have unique accessory drive noise characteristics. Engineering review of warranty returned belt tensioners has not identified an out of specification part, nor have abnormal sounds been recreated during on-vehicle evaluations with warranty returned tensioners. Before attempting a repair for an accessory drive system noise, compare the sound to a like Transit vehicle in similar RPM and temperature conditions. If the sound is not characteristic, use chassis ears to help isolate the source of the noise. If tensioner replacement is deemed necessary, use the Report a Vehicle Concern link at the bottom of the vehicle's OASIS screen and submit a detailed Global Concern Report highlighting the specific conditions when the noise was observed.
