Service bulletin SSM 47662

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

NHTSA's summary

For 2010-2019 vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines, when diagnosing and/or replacing turbo related concerns, all steps within the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure must be followed including replacement of all mandatory discarded parts. For all turbocharged engine applications, the turbocharger oil supply filter (6C683 gas engine/6L625 connector style or 6A968 diesel engine) must be replaced whenever the turbocharger or the turbocharger oil supply tube are replaced. Turbocharger bearing failure may occur if oil starvation occurs due to a restricted filter.

A recall listed here may apply to some of the same vehicles. Only the manufacturer can say whether it applies to one vehicle.

Other bulletins for the same vehicles and component
SSM 498052021-06-01. Service bulletin. Some 2011-2021 vehicles equipped with a diesel engine may have engine oil in the exhaust after turbocharger replacement for various reasons. To correct the condition, remove the exhaust and stand the exhaust up with the turbocharger inlet side facing down using a suitable drain pan. Allow the exhaust to drain for at least 24 hours and reinstall. Do not perform a manual exhaust regeneration.
TSB 19-21882019-08-06. Service bulletin. Some 2015-2017 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may exhibit excessive white or blue smoke from the exhaust at start up after a cold soak. This may be due to oil entering the left hand turbocharger turbine housing. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the left hand turbocharger oil supply tube with a revised part.
SSM 475572018-11-19. Service bulletin. Some 2017-2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may exhibit white or grey smoke/vapor from the exhaust after cold start and/or black soot accumulation on the exhaust tailpipe. Some smoke during cold start is normal for EcoBoost engines due to their unique fueling characteristics. If the vehicle exhibits smoke after the engine is at normal operating temperature refer to the appropriate section of the Workshop Manual (WSM) and/or Powertrain Control Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for diagnostics. Refer to GSB G0000185 Various Vehicles Equipped With Turbocharged V6 Engines - Turbocharger Oil/Coolant Leaks before replacing gasoline engine turbochargers.
SSM 470052018-06-11. Service bulletin. 2017-2018 Explorer/Taurus vehicles equipped with 3.5L gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) engine and built on or after 27-Jun-2017 are equipped with a revised rear lower roll restrictor that eliminates the need for the front roll restrictor. The front roll restrictor has been eliminated by design on these vehicle applications even though the brackets may still be present. Do not add the front roll restrictor to units built after this date, as it may negatively impact the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) attributes.
SSM 460852017-08-01. Service bulletin. The Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual has been revised for diagnosing electronic throttle bodies (ETBs). The ETC_ACT and ETC_DSD PIDs should not used to diagnose possible ETB concerns. The IDS has a limited refresh rate when reading these PIDs and cannot display quickly enough to validate a concern. The PCM automatically monitors these inputs more accurately and will set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) when appropriate. Using these PIDs for diagnostics will lead to inaccurate results and improper ETB replacements. If a concern is intermittent and no DTCs are present, refer to historical DTCs and the PC/ED, Section 3 No DTCs Present Index chart for further information.
TSB 16-01322017-08-01. Service bulletin. Some 2017 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine built on or before 9-Jun-2016 may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0455 and/or P144C stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory. This may be due to a disconnected or loose evaporative emission (EVAP) system underhood vapor line. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
TSB 16-01302017-08-01. Service bulletin. Some 2014-2017 Fusion and 2017 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine may exhibit low coolant, white exhaust smoke and an illuminated MIL if diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0217, P300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0316 and/or P1299 are present. This condition may be due to an intake manifold bolt backing out causing damage to the charge air cooler (CAC). Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
TSB 16-01232017-08-01. Service bulletin. Some 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.3L GTDI engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with a lack of power and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0299. This may be due to the turbocharger wastegate actuator rod coming disconnected from the wastegate. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
TSB 16-01222017-08-01. Service bulletin. Some 2016 Explorer vehicles equipped with a 2.3L GTDI engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with a lack of power and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0299. This may be due to the turbocharger wastegate actuator rod coming disconnected from the wastegate. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
TSB 16-01212017-08-01. Service bulletin. Some 20152016 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 2.3L GTDI engine and built on or before 1/1/2016 may exhibit a lack of power with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0299. This may be due to the turbocharger wastegate actuator rod coming disconnected from the wastegate. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
