Service bulletins for the 2020 Ford Escape
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| 21B19 | 2021-05-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. In all of the affected vehicles, the AWD module was assembled with an incorrect transistor that controls the transition between AWD and 2WD. When this transistor fails the vehicle will remain in either AWD or 2WD and not transition between the drive states. This can cause the wrench light to illuminate in the instrument cluster. |

| TSB 21-2122 | 2021-05-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020-2021 Escape hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) built on or before 29-Mar-2021 may experience a lack of power, crank/no start, and Stop Safely Now message with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P2282, P0106 and/or P1A0C stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) in temperatures below 32’F/0’C. This may be due to various software parameters within the PCM and condensation buildup in the intake manifold. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure and reprogram the PCM. |
| TSB 21-2080 | 2021-04-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020 Escape hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) built on or before 4-Dec-2020 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P1A0C stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) and exhibit a Stop Safely Now message in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). This may be due to the software in the PCM. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM. |
| SSM 49690 | 2021-03-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. For 2018-2021 EcoSport/Expedition/Navigator, 2019-2021 Ranger/Transit Connect, 2020-2021 Escape/Explorer/SuperDuty/Transit/Aviator/Corsair, 2021 Bronco Sport/F-150/Mustang/Mach-E the Workshop Manual (WSM) diagnostics may direct to replace a module on vehicles that use Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS). First, an FDRS session must be created on the vehicle prior to removing the faulted module. Once the session is started, run the Programmable Module Installation and replace the module only when instructed by FDRS. Installing a new module prior to starting a scan tool session may result in incomplete module configuration with DTCs U2100, U2101 and/or U2200. Once a session has been started, continue to follow normal WSM procedures to repair the vehicle. |
| SSM 49574 | 2021-03-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020 Escape vehicles with 2.5L HEV/PHEV may exhibit a key off battery drain which results in a no crank/no start condition. The vehicle may also exhibit a yellow electric parking brake (EPB) warning lamp, Park Brake Fault and/or red EPB warning light Illumination to the instrument panel cluster (IPC). This may be due to the ABS module communicating with the IPC resulting in illumination draining the battery. To correct this condition, update the antilock brake module using the latest software of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. For claiming, use causal part 2C219 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
| 20B51 | 2021-03-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; SERVICE BRAKES; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. In some of the affected vehicles, the Electric Brake Booster (EBB) may contain a cracked solenoid valve plunger that may break and move out of position. A dislocated valve plunger may lead to the driver experiencing any of the following symptoms: Hard brake pedal, over-braking condition, and if certain other conditions are present, longer brake pedal travel with an incremental increase in stopping distance that would be accompanied by a red brake warning indicator lamp on the instrument panel cluster |
| SSM 49427 | 2021-02-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This may be due to a missing wastegate actuator e-clip. A lower level service component has been released, K2GZ-9G488-B for Edge/Nautilus/Escape/Corsair vehicles and LB5Z-9G488-B for Explorer/Ranger vehicles, for service to replace the actuator, actuator rod and both e-clips. Turbocharger replacement is not necessary for missing wastegate actuator e-clips. |

Malfunction Service Required, or Pre-Collision Assist Not Available. This may be due to a disconnected or discharged battery, recent PSCM or anti-lock brake system (ABS) module reprogram or configuration, or loss of ABS communication to the PSCM. The Workshop Manual pinpoint test is in the process of being updated and replacement of the electronic power assist steering (EPAS) column is not necessary. To clear the DTC, drive the vehicle straight for 30 seconds at speeds over 50 km/h (30 mph). Cycle the ignition on/off once complete. For claiming use causal part 3C529. |

Some 2020 Escape and Explorer hybrid vehicles may experience discharge of the high voltage battery (HVB) with DTCs P0DE6 and P0A7D. This may be due to the vehicle not being operated for an extended length of time or from a crank/no-start condition. If the HVB is discharged, refer to the applicable GSB and Workshop Manual section to confirm if off-board charging is required. Note that the voltages in the GSB do not apply to 2020 Escape and Explorer. Using the appropriate Ford scan tool, monitor PID values: HVBAT_V on 2020 Escape (at least 90V, but less than 165V)and 2020 Explorer HVBAT_V (at least 114V, but less than 210V). For both vehicles, HEV_BAT_MIN_V should be greater than 1.45V, and HEV_BAT_VAR_V less than 2.5V. If the values are within limits and the HVB is suitable for a rescue charge, contact the Technical Assistance Center to request a high voltage charger. |
