Service bulletins for the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Note: Repeat steps 10-12 a total of 10 times to remove any remaining air trapped in the system. |
| SSM 52335 | 2024-03-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. For 2015-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed. |
| TSB 23-2335 | 2023-11-03. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. | SSM 51799 | 2023-07-25. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. Some 2020-2023 Escape and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with the 1.5L engine may exhibit a lugging vibration and/or boom noise while driving in gears 5-8 at approximately 1500 engine revolutions per minute (RPM). This may be felt more when the engine is under a light to moderate load. A vibration and/or boom noise could be generated from the firing frequency of the 3 cylinders or when cylinder deactivation occurs and the engine is running on 2 cylinders. This condition is more noticeable when the vehicle is driven in ECO mode. This mode was designed to deliver maximum fuel efficiency and increase the driving range. |

This noise will be most noticeable on tip in acceleration and may be due to a mispositioned fuel tank heat shield. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reposition the fuel tank heat shield. |
| SSM 50485 | 2022-02-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2019-2022 Edge/Nautilus, 2020-2022 Escape/Corsair, and 2021-2022 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost or 2.3L EcoBoost may exhibit a lack of power with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P02AB, P0243, P0299, P25B3, P25B4, P2AB7, P2AB8 and/or P2AB9. This may be due to an inoperative wastegate actuator, missing wastegate actuator e-clip or non-visible damage to the actuator rod. If the diagnostic procedures lead to replacement of the turbocharger assembly, note that a lower level service component has been released K2GZ-9G488-B for Edge/Nautilus/Escape/Corsair/Bronco Sport for service to replace the actuator, actuator rod and both e-clips instead of a complete turbocharger assembly. When replacing the wastegate actuator, it is required to replace all parts included in the service kit. |
| SSM 50382 | 2022-02-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2021 Escape and 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with 1.5L EcoBoost engines may experience an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P3402. This may be due to the cylinder 1 deactivation solenoid. To correct this condition, replace the cylinder deactivation solenoid with service part number H6BZ-6H082-A. DTC P0299 may also be present. Diagnose P3402 first, then determine if DTC P0299 returns and follow normal Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures as necessary. |
| SSM 50338 | 2021-12-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020-2021 Escape and 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost engine may experience a lack of power, excessive spark knock and an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or a powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P130D stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This concern typically occurs under moderate to high load conditions at highway speeds. This may be due to a loose ground at G109 or G107. To correct this condition, inspect G109 for the ground eyelet being installed upside down/loose/corrosion and G107 ignition coil ground. The eyelet on G109 has a tab that should be facing down to stop rotation during tightening. |
| SSM 50336 | 2021-12-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2021 Escape/Corsair and 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles may exhibit a communication fault with emissions inspection equipment. This may be due to the software in the gateway module. To correct this condition, reprogram the gateway module to latest software level using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Use causal part 14F642 and applicable labor times from Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |
| SSM 50306 | 2021-12-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2018-2021 EcoSport, Expedition, Navigator; 2019-2021 Ranger; 2020-2021 Escape, Corsair, Explorer, Transit; 2021 Bronco, Bronco Sport, Edge, Nautilus, F-150, Mustang; 2019-2022 Transit Connect; 2020-2022 Aviator, F-Super Duty; and 2022 Maverick vehicles may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P0496, P0456, P0455, P04F0, and/or P0451. Ford has tested returned EVAP canister purge valves and found them to be fully functional. Prior to replacing the canister purge valve or other EVAP components, perform the following tests using the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) Scan Tool: Full System EVAP Leak Test - FDRS Location: TOOLBOX > PCM > PCM - Evap Emissions System Test and the EVAP Purge Valve Leak Test - FDRS Location: TOOLBOX > PCM > Evap Emission System Toolbox > CPV Check. |
| SSM 50171 | 2021-10-29. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:HARD PARTS INTERNAL/MECHANICAL. Some 2019-2021 Edge/Nautilus/Ranger, 2020-2021 Escape/Corsair/Explorer, and 2021 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with a 2.0L/2.3L EcoBoost may exhibit a lack of power with an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P02AB, P0243, P0299, P1464, P25B3, P25B4, P2AB7, P2AB8 and/or P2AB9. This may be due to an inoperative wastegate actuator, missing wastegate actuator e-clip or non-visible damage to the actuator rod. A lower level service component has been released, K2GZ-9G488-B for Edge/Nautilus/Escape/Corsair/Bronco Sport vehicles and LB5Z-9G488-B for Explorer/Ranger vehicles, for service to replace the actuator, actuator rod and both e-clips. When replacing the wastegate actuator, it is important to replace all parts in the service kit. Turbocharger replacement is not necessary to correct the condition. |
