Service bulletins for the 2014 BMW X5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

3103142018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Clicking Noise from Front Axle. A high-pitched metallic clicking noise is heard from the front axle when taking off from a stop or during a load reversal (reverse to drive). The preset axial play in the input flange to pinion bearings of the front differential may create a metal-on-metal "crack" noise when load reversing.
7101142018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT. "BMW centers must ensure Recalls are completed after having been notified by BMW of North America, LLC (BMWNA) that a safety-related defect or noncompliance exists in any motor vehicle or item of replacement equipment in the center's possession at the time of notification. In BMW NA's case, this notification would typically be made by the issuance of a Recall notification in the form of a Service Information bulletin (SIB) or transmission of a Dealer Communication System (DCS) Recall message. When a Recall Campaign is announced by BMW NA, centers must ensure that all Recalls on new vehicles and new items of replacement equipment are completed BEFORE delivery to the consumer. This means that centers may not legally deliver new motor vehicles or new items of replacement equipment to consumers with an open Recall. This also pertains to vehicles in the Certified Pre-Owned program, and to items of replacement equipment. Finally, BMW centers should not sell or use parts that have been recalled by BMW NA. Please follow the specific instructions provided by BMW NA on the return or disposition of the parts. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Voluntary Emissions Recall Campaign 14E-A01: Replace Emissions Label. Certain 2014 model year F15 vehicles produced from March 13, 2014 through April 12, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with an ""emissions"" label with incorrect information pertaining to the model year. Affected vehicles in dealer inventory must not be retailed or delivered until this issue is corrected. Vehicles at VDCs will be repaired prior to dealer delivery."

3301142018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. "?SI B33 01 14 March 2014 Rear AxleTechnical Service. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B33 01 14 dated February 2014. PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Delivery Stop/Service Action: Check Rear Axle Differential. 1 A Delivery Stop has been issued on certain 2014 model year F15 and F3x vehicles produced from July 2013 to January 2014 because the final drive differential gears may not have been properly hardened. Vehicles held at the ports of entry are being inspected and/or repaired prior to center delivery. During this inspection and analysis of data, BMW of North America has documented a failure rate of less than one in two hundred. The affected vehicles are listed in the attachment to this bulletin; they are also identified with a ""Vehicle Comment"" in the DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry or ISPA as follows: ??Defect Code 0033840100, Delivery Stop: Rear Axle Differential; see SI B 33 01 14 The initial limited available stock of parts is reserved for vehicles that have already been sold and are in customers' hands (see Situation 2). Affected vehicles in center inventory must not be retailed or delivered until the rear differential has been replaced. 2 Certain 2014 model year F15 and F3x vehicles produced from July 2013 to January 2014 may have final drive differential gears that have not been properly hardened. These vehicles have already been sold and delivered to customers."
B2704152018-11-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE; WHEELS. Shudder from the Driveline on Vehicles with xDrive. There is a shudder or vibration from the driveline when taking off from a stop, or when accelerating at highway speeds. CAUSE Possible multiple root causes related to the engine, wheels & tires, suspension components or internal wear on the clutch plates of the xDrive transfer case.
6103142018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. Check Control Messages Related to Battery Charge During Cold Ambient Temperatures. On cold days with an outside ambient temperature of less than 15°F, customers may notice a check control message related to the battery that is displayed on the instrument cluster and the control information display. Under these conditions, the vehicle starts. Various power management faults can be stored. When the outside temperatures drop below 46°F, the charging system is switch to full charge. CAUSE ? The check control message (ID 229) is caused by a heavily discharged battery. ? The check control message is triggered when the current state of charge (SoC) of the battery approaches the minimum SoC that is required to start the vehicle (start capability limit). ? In low outside ambient temperatures, the start capability limit of the vehicle is higher. Therefore it takes more energy from the battery to start a cold engine. ? Without the early warning of the check control message, the current state of charge would drop below the start capability limit and the vehicle would not start. ? The vehicle's intelligent power management system actively takes measures to increase the charge of the battery, such as increasing idle speed and reducing or shutting down certain electrical consumers.
B1223162018-11-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. SHUDDER OR JERKING IN 7TH AND 8TH GEARS AT 1000 - 1400 RPM. A shudder or slight jerking can be felt when driving with the transmission in 7th or 8th gear and the engine speed is between 1,000 and 1,400 RPM. No related faults are stored and there are not any problems in the chassis systems or with the wheels and tires. This shudder or jerking could begin due to the characteristic power pulses of the N63T engine when it is in VVT mode at low engine loads.
B3101122018-11-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. CLICKING NOISE FROM FRONT AXLE This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 31 01 12 dated June 2015.
