Service bulletins for the 2012 BMW 328i

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

B2402162018-12-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL). F30 PHEVs- Delayed Driving Readiness Status. Immediately after an engine start (start/stop button press), the gear selector is operated, but no drive position (D or R) can be engaged (transmission stays in P). The customer must operate the gear selector again to engage a desired drive position. Unfavorable software application Vehicle requires approximately 1 second after the start/stop button is pressed to establish a Drive Readiness status. If the gear selector is operated during this 1-second window, gear selection is not going to be executed and the gear shifter must be engaged again.

B1126152018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; POWER TRAIN. SI B11 26 15 March 2016 Engine Technical Service This Service Information Bulletin supersedes SI B11 26 15 dated February 2016. The upper crankshaft guide bearing may wear out prematurely. The wear on the upper guide bearing can cause the clutch pedal to malfunction during shifting. The Engine Malfunction warning may be illuminated and a fault will be stored in the DME memory for the crankshaft sensor. Noise may be heard from the lower engine and transmission bell housing area. Engine damage can occur in rare occasions.
B1233142018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI 12 33 14 dated December 2015. SUBJECT Fault Code 1D2008 Stored in DME. The Service Engine Soon light is on. Fault Code 1D2008: Map thermostat: jammed open is stored in the DME. There may also be a complaint of low heat output with lower outside temperatures. CAUSE During the engine warm-up, the engine coolant does not reach operating temperature within the DME's allowable time limits. This is caused by either a faulty thermostat inside the transmission oil heat exchanger or a faulty engine characteristic map thermostat.
B1126152018-12-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY.
1217132018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE; POWER TRAIN. N55: Engine Difficult to Start at Cold Ambient Temperatures. The complaint may include any of the following symptoms: * The engine stalls immediately after a cold start before driving away * The engine may run roughly or misfire after a cold start * The engine does not start cold or may take several attempts * To assist starting when cold, the accelerator may need to be depressed slightly and the idle speed raised for a few seconds so the engine does not stall This can occur most frequently at outside ambient temperatures between -15°C and + 15°C. It is possible that the Service Engine Soon (MIL) lamp is on with misfire fault(s) stored, but it is equally possible that there will be no faults stored in the DME. Unfavorable DME software Cold start or idling problems may arise due to poor fuel quality. The use of summer fuel during cold outside temperatures may also lead to such problems.
1201132018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. MN16 Engine: FC 2D9B Knock Sensor, Signal Is Stored in the DME. Certain areas of the US experience extremely cold climate conditions during the winter months, which can cause the Service Engine Soon lamp to illuminate while the engine temperature is increasing to full operating temperature. The following fault may be stored in the DME: ??FC 2D9B Knock Sensor, Signal CAUSE Unfavorable DME knock sensor diagnostic at outside ambient temperatures below -5° C
1225122018-12-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. One or more of the following situations may occur sporadically: * The vehicle does not start * The vehicle stops running * The air conditioning compressor does not turn on * Reverse lights do not work * The transmission does not shift into gear * Various chassis and engine check control messages CAUSE The ground point Z6000*4B on the engine block near the starter is loose.

1222122018-11-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; ENGINE; POWER TRAIN. Service Action: Program Control Units. When coming to a stop, there is the possibility of an unfavorable judder. This is due to the software parameters for downshifting and transmission clutch control. CAUSE Unfavorable vehicle software
1201132018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. "Transmission Intermittently Goes into ""P"" or ""N"" After MSA Engine Start. After an MSA engine start, the transmission intermittently goes into the Park (P) or Neutral (N) position without any customer influence. 1233142018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Fault Code 1D2008 Stored in DME.
6117142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. "Intelligent Battery Sensor Diagnosis Hints. The vehicle enters the workshop with one or more of the following complaints: * Check Control Message related to battery discharge * No-start condition * Consumer power reduction (reduced blower speed, heated seats operation, etc.) * The following fault codes may be stored in the DME a. 2E8B - Intelligent battery sensor, signal b. 2E8C - Intelligent battery sensor, function c. 2E8D - Intelligent battery sensor, signal transmission d. 2E8E - Intelligent battery sensor, communication CAUSE A faulty battery or IBS sensor (not both) The power management system and IBS in the vehicle cannot determine if the battery needs to be replaced. This is normal operation for all E-Series vehicles because they do not have the Advanced IBS sensor that the F-Series vehicles do. An external battery tester (Midtronics EXP-1000) must be used to determine if the battery needs to be replaced. Energy Diagnosis will not prompt for a battery replacement unless the battery is ""aged."" When energy diagnosis identifies the battery as ""aged,"" it means the amount of energy discharge over the course of the life of the battery has reached its maximum (worn out). In most cases, energy diagnosis states that the battery is OK. This is typically an indication of the current State of Charge (SoC), not the State of Health (SoH). The SoC is defined as the current amount of energy left in the battery (displayed as a percentage). The SoH is defined as an evaluation of the condition of the battery over a period of time (displayed as a percentage). For more information about batteries, refer to Training Manual ST051, ""07 Battery Basics."""
