Service bulletins for the 2012 BMW 328i

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

B0107222022-05-31. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Component and Issue Specific Limited Emission Warranty Extension. This bulletin is notice of a limited emission warranty extension. This is NOT a notice of a Recall or Service Action. There is no immediate repair required unless the BMW vehicle is currently experiencing this problem. Customer Notification Letter Even though this is NOT a Recall, BMW NA is sending VIN-specific customer notification letters. The plastic fuel tank has two openings, one at the top right and the other at the top left. The top right opening (passenger's side, serviceable) provides a mounting point and repair access to the intake fuel pump/level sensor assembly. The top left opening (driver's side, non-serviceable) serves as an access point for the installation of the suction jet pump/level sensor assembly during the fuel tank manufacturing process. After these components are installed, the top left side opening is then permanently closed and sealed with the installation of a circular Coex biopolymer plastic cover plate which is welded into place. Over time, the left side opening plastic cover plate weld may become damaged. Should this occur, there is the possibility of fuel leakage. Additionally, your vehicle will store the corresponding fault codes that may also be generated, and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate.

5131142018-11-13. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS. Headlight Cleaning System: Functional Operation Change. The customer complains that the headlight cleaning system is not working properly and only works after several actuating attempts. CAUSE The "functional" operation of the headlight cleaning system was changed with integration level F020-14-07-500. The functional changes to the headlight cleaning system's operation will occur only after programming the vehicle with ISTA/P 2.53.0 or higher. INFORMATION The headlight cleaning system is no longer activated with the first stalk activation when the lights are on. The functional programming change now requires the stalk to be activated four times before headlight cleaning is activated. The change prevents automatic activation of headlight cleaning when the customer only wants to clean his/her windshield. This is normal operation and no parts should be changed.
6308142018-11-13. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS. Active Headlight Control Malfunction in Both Headlights. AHL (Active Headlight Control) malfunctions on both sides. Both lights aim either up or down while driving. Fault Code 8041B6 is present. Broken mounting bolt holding on the rear height sensor bracket.
6307142018-11-13. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS. "One or Both Xenon Headlights Aiming Downwards. CAUSE Both sides are aiming downwards: * The most likely cause is a faulty or disconnected rear height sensor. In very extreme cases due to poor road conditions, both headlight assemblies could have the vertical aim ball socket adjuster disconnected, as noted below. Only one side is aiming downwards: * The cause could be a ""disconnected"" vertical aim ball socket adjuster, resulting from excessive road vibration or sharp impacts (pot holes) through the suspension to the headlight assembly. Important Note: Follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin first; replacing headlight assemblies for a vertical aim ball socket adjuster issue is an excessive repair."
6305122018-11-13. Service bulletin. INTERIOR LIGHTING; EXTERIOR LIGHTING. ?Taillight Is Loose in the Trunk Lid. The customer may notice the taillight is either loose or protruding outward from the trunk lid. CAUSE The taillight is not attached to the trunk lid properly due to the taillight design. If a customer complains of this taillight issue, an improved part is now available.
6304142018-11-13. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Delay in Automatic Driving Light Switching On/Off. When driving out of a tunnel or exiting underground parking, the automatic driving light remains switched on for two minutes, even in daylight. The automatic driving light switching on/off can be shorter or longer when it starts to get dark. CAUSE The software for the switch-on threshold is lowered to protect the xenon light source.
6302142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EXTERIOR LIGHTING; EXTERIOR LIGHTING:FOG LIGHTS. Fog Light Operation Changed After Programming. After the vehicle is programmed with ISTA/P 2.49.x or 2.50.x (integration level earlier than F02013-11-502), the fog lights cannot be operated when the light switch is in the parking light position. Note: The fog light operation has been changed in vehicles produced from March 2013. The fog lights cannot be operated when the light switch is in the park position. This is normal operation due to state legislative requirements that have changed; no further action is required. CAUSE Software error with ISTA/P 2.49.x and 2.50.x

Water on the inside (A) or misting (B) of both headlight lenses that is visible from outside. Water inside the headlights can be caused by two situations: Water/moisture ingress into the headlight housing. Thermal conditions that result in the formation of condensation. Note: An important indication that the moisture issue is caused by ""condensation"" rather than a ""water leak"" into the headlight housing, there will be misting/condensation in ""both headlights."""
