Service bulletins for the 2016 Mazda CX-9

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

MT-007-182018-08-27. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES; ENGINE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ENGINE NO START AND / OR REAR VIEW MONITOR DISPLAY IS BLURRY DUE TO AFTERMARKET ELECTRICAL DEVICE: Some customers may complain about the following: Engine no start. A blurry rear view monitor display. This may be caused by an aftermarket accessory device. Some aftermarket electrical devices (e.g., an accessory cell phone charger) may create excessive electrical noise. The noise may interrupt some of the vehicle electrical systems. Below are a few examples of an aftermarket cell phone charger that is interrupting the vehicle electrical systems.
01-010-18-3442b2018-08-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Some vehicles may exhibit an engine misfire during acceleration with the check engine light flashing and the following DTC(s). P0302:00 - Cylinder No.2 misfire detected and/or P0303:00 - Cylinder No.3 misfire detected NOTE: Even if a misfire occurred, the DTCs may not be stored because they are set after the continuous misfire occurred for 2 drive cycles. In this case, check if the following information is available to verify if the vehicle is applicable to this Service Information. The customer states that the misfire occurred and at the same time the check engine light started flashing. DTC U0401:00 ((ABS) Signal error from PCM) is detected. This concern may be caused if the exhaust manifold variable valve shaft (1) is out of alignment and/or the exhaust manifold variable valve housing (2) is out of shape. The exhaust manifold variable valve (3) then interferes with the housing and becomes stuck closed when the engine is hot. To eliminate this concern in the future, the production processes and controls have been improved.
SA-029-182018-08-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. IMPORTANT: If you encounter an IDS inoperative problem with VCM-II license expiration message, follow the instructions below: 1. CLICK HERE to download the resetting tool to your PC desktop. 2. Reboot your PC, DO NOT start any application after restarting. 3. Run the resetting tool by double clicking the "Reset.bat" file (on your desktop from step 1). 4. Press any key after reading the notifications about the resetting tool.
SA-026-182018-07-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE. If a vehicle is driven on extremely short trips most of the time (where the engine never reaches normal operating temperature), the engine oil may become diluted with fuel and the engine oil level will increase. Engine oil dilution with fuel occurring under this specific driving condition is normal with direct injection engines. If the vehicle is driven on a longer trip after a lot of short trips (where the engine reaches normal operating temperature), the Check Engine Light may turn ON with DTC P0172:00 (Fuel system too rich).
01-013-18-34782018-07-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some vehicles may exhibit the check engine light on with DTC P0456 stored in the PCM memory. P0456: EVAP system leak detected (very small leak)The concern is most likely the result of the customer not getting the fuel cap completely closed after fuelingthe vehicle. This causes a small fuel vapor leak and turns DTC P0456 on.
01-012-18-34742018-07-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Some vehicles may experience the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON with DTC P2610 and P2507 stored inmemory after engine start and room fuse 15A (A) removed. P2610:00: Instrument cluster internal engine off timer performance problem P2507:00: PCM battery voltage low input. As a past malfunction, the customer will not notice it (no warning light illuminated), but the DTC may be found during a vehicle service. P2507 in this situation is only applicable on 2016 and later models. This is caused by the engine being started 3 or more times after a short duration of engine off (less than 15 seconds) with the room fused removed. NOTE: The odometer will display "F0-002" during transport mode (room fuse 15A removed). Transport mode is canceled when room fuse 15A is installed or the vehicle odometer is more than 12.4mi (20km). Vehicles in dealer inventory with this concern should be repaired using the following repair procedure.
05-004-18-34662018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some vehicles may experience the check engine light and automatic transaxle warning light ON with one or more of these DTCs stored in the TCM memory (P0842, P0847, P0872, P0877, P0780, P1738). P0842:00 - Oil pressure switch No. 1 (oil pressure switch B) stuck on P0847:00 - Oil pressure switch No. 2 (oil pressure switch A) stuck on P0872:00 - Oil pressure switch No. 3 (oil pressure switch A) stuck on P0877:00 - Oil pressure switch No. 4 (oil pressure switch B) stuck on P0780:00 - Gear shifting malfunction P1738:00 Automatic transaxle internal malfunction This is caused by the oil pressure switch A and/or B at the control valve body temporarily or permanently getting stuck due to contamination entering the passage. To correct the problem, some mass production changes have been implemented to reduce contamination and improve the DTC diagnostic logic. NOTE: If the vehicle also has a delayed engagement concern, this TSB is not applicable. Refer to MGSS online for proper diagnosis and repair procedure.
04-003-18-34552018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some customers may report a slight clunk/bang/buzz noise or jolt from the front of the vehicle. This concern will most likely occur during the vehicles first forward movement after starting the engine. This is a normal operating noise of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS). Do not attempt any repairs. If you encounter a customer complaint for this concern, explain that the noise comes from the ABS/TCS/DSC "Malfunction Detection Function" initial check and that there is no problem. This initial check is a necessary function to ensure the normal operation of the ABS/TCS/DSC system. It occurs when the vehicles first moves forward under the following conditions. NOTE: Some customers may describe that the noise does not occur all the time. It does occur all the time, but the sound is more likely to be heard on a slow start and not on a quick start (quick acceleration) when engine noise is louder.
01-010-18-3442a2018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING.
SA-019-182018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. While inspecting turbocharger housings, you may see cracks (fractures) as shown below. The cracks do not affect engine performance or cause any noise, so replacement is NOT necessary.
01-003-18-34212018-05-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE; POWER TRAIN. Some customers may experience a lack of power with no warning lights illuminated and no related DTCs stored. This concern most likely occurs when the fuel temperature is high and during situations where high power is required. This concern may be caused when the learning value for the low pressure fuel pump exceeds a certain level and the PCM limits engine power to avoid a lack of fuel injection. Even if the low pressure fuel pump has a problem, no DTCs are stored. To eliminate this concern, the PCM control logic has been modified not to limit engine power. After this modification, DTCs P0192:00 or P0087:00 are stored when the fuel injection amount is insufficient. P0192:00 - High fuel pressure sensor circuit low input P0087:00 - High fuel pressure sensor circuit range/performance problem.
01-010-18-34422018-04-23. Service bulletin. ENGINE. Some vehicles may exhibit an engine misfire during acceleration with the check engine light flashing and the following DTC(s). P0302:00 - Cylinder No.2 misfire detected and/or P0303:00 - Cylinder No.3 misfire detected. NOTE: Even if a misfire occurred, the DTCs may not be stored because they are set after the continuous misfire occurred for 2 drive cycles.
MT-021-172018-02-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. Some vehicles may experience the Check Engine Light ON with DTC P0171 (Fuel Trim too Lean) and possibly DTCs P030X (Misfire). Vehicles having this concern should use the following Inspection/Repair procedure.
01-007-17-33492017-10-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER. Some vehicles may exhibit a lack of engine power / intake air leak noise from the engine compartment. Hose clamps A and/or B for the air hose (C) for the turbocharger air outlet pipe (D) may be loose due to insufficient tightening. The tightening torque of the hose clamps has been increased to eliminate this concern.
01-006-17-33182017-08-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ENGINE. Some customers may complain about a slight hesitation while accelerating from a stop. It most likely occurs when D or R range is selected right after engine start or during high rpm idling. This may be caused by an improper PCM control logic. To eliminate this concern, the control logic of the PCM has been changed.
