Service bulletins for the 2016 Mazda CX-9
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| 01-001-18-3419 | 2018-03-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. After parking the vehicle at temperatures below the freezing, some customers may experience a lack of power with the check engine light on and DTC P0638:00 and/or P2112:00 stored in memory. - P0638:00: Throttle valve actuator control range/performance problem (one drive cycle DTC) - P2112:00: Throttle valve actuator motor currentrange/performance problem (one drive cycle DTC) This concern may be caused by condensed water in the intake manifold entering the throttle valve. After parking at temperatures below freezing, the throttle valve may be frozen at the stand-by position, resulting in the symptom. To prevent this concern, the control logic of the PCM has been modified to avoid frozen the throttle valve (by moving the valve at a certain time after the ignition has been turned off). NOTE: With this modification, the main relay may stay on up to 90 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off. "BATTERY INSPECTION" in the Workshop Manual will be modified to properly check the battery parasitic draw after this modification. |
| 09-002-18-3410 | 2018-03-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL. After the installation of a new instrument cluster, the message "Fctry" or "Factory" is displayed instead ofthe odometer. This concern may also occur when a room fuse is installed in a new vehicle. Some new instrument clusters are in the factory mode setting. Factory mode cancellation is required.NOTE: The concern is applicable to Calsonic Kansei instrument clusters. Not all trim levels are affected.CX-3 shown:Vehicles having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure. |

This may be caused by: The navigation SD card lock tab is locked. The navigation SD card has a VIN mismatch due to SD card swapping. The navigation SD card has a malfunction. |
| SA-074-17 | 2018-02-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. If the BSM control module is replaced, Auto Configuration and BSM Radar Test must be performed: 1. Auto Configuration -When the ignition is switched ON, the blind spot monitoring (BSM) reads the vehicle specification information sent via CAN communication from the instrument cluster, and stores the vehicle specification information into the new BSM control module. 2. BSM Radar Test - This test confirms correct BSM module/bracket alignment. The Workshop Manual "BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) RADAR TEST" is incorrect. Mazda is in the process of correcting the error. Perform the following procedure temporarily until the Workshop Manual is corrected: |
| 15-005-17-3358b | 2017-11-14. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EXTERIOR LIGHTING. Some customers may complain that the BSM indicator light on the outer mirror glass does not illuminate when: ? Customer vehicle (A) is slowly passing other vehicle, even if the vehicle is still in the alert area.? Adjacent vehicle (B) driving at same speed, even if the vehicle is still in the alert area. Customers who have owned previous Mazda vehicles are more likely to complain. The BSM control module has been modified to address these customer concerns. |
| 15-005-17-3358a | 2017-11-14. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may complain that when passing a vehicle slowly, even if the vehicle is still in the alert area, the BSM indicator light on the outer mirror glass does not illuminate. Customers who have owned previous Mazda vehicles are more likely to complain. The BSM control module has been modified to address this customer concern. |
| 01-009-17-3377 | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. Some customers may experience a lack of power when driving. The master warning light or the check engine light turns on and DTC P130C stored in memory. It occurs mostly at low temperatures. Once the ignition is turned off and on, the concern may disappear. The PCM turns the master warning light on during the first drive cycle, then stores a pending DTC. The master warning light and check engine light come on in the second drive cycle as a confirmation of the DTC. The engine power is limited by the fail-safe function both in the first and second drive cycles. DTC P130C:00 - (Pre-ignition detected). Improper control logic of the PCM detects a normal operating noise as a knocking noise. To eliminate this concern, the control logic of the PCM has been changed. |
| 09-017-17-3347b | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. All Mazda Connect vehicles in new car inventory must be updated to this software version listed below in this TSB as part of the New Car Ready Step 3 process. | 09-029-17-3365 | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Some customers may complain that the tachometer display in the Active Driving Display cannot be turned off using the MAZDA CONNECT setting menu since it has been removed by a CMU update. The concerns will be noticed after a CMU update from versions 58 to version 59. This is caused by the seat position memory control module storing the active driving display indication position, brightness level, and display information at the same time when the seat position is programmed. If the setting for the tachometer display was left ?ON? for the programmed position before the CMU update, the position memory control module still remembers the status and therefore the tachometer display remains. |

| 09-001-17-3296b | 2017-10-04. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS; STRUCTURE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. When dealing with customer complaints of excessive condensation and/or water within the headlamp unit, first determine if all the bulb sockets (including O-ring), seals and covers are present and correctly installed. In most cases you will find that the Bulb Seal No. 1 (A) or HID Bulb Seal No. 1 (B) and Bulb Seal No. 2 (C) socket covers have not been correctly installed or are missing due to improper prior repairs (i.e., customer replacing the headlamp bulbs or body shop not transferring them when replacing the headlamp unit(s) due to a collision). Any damage caused by missing socket covers, HID module seal (D), or missing bumper brackets (E) is not covered by warranty policy. |
| 09-035-17-3080 | 2017-10-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer?s responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometerand related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement. Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers. When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles. This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage. Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the ?SpeedometerReplacement Label?.Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore. In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda?s vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO?s services, a Mazda dealer can get the odometer setting updated to reflect the correct mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs, therefore resulting in a higher level of customer satisfaction. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after- warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense. |
| 15-005-17-3358 | 2017-10-04. Service bulletin. LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION; VISIBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may complain that when passing a vehicle slowly, even if the vehicle is still in the alert area, the BSM indicator light on the outer mirror glass does not illuminate. | 09-034-17-3379 | 2017-10-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. Some customers may experience the 8-inch center display sometimes turns black while driving. When the display turns black, the sound (for navigation or audio system) can still be heard and the volume can be controlled. The center display may return to normal after turning the ignition switch off, then on again. This concern may be caused by internal noise within the center display, which disturbs the integrated DC-DC converter and results in no power for the display. To eliminate this concern, the hardware for the center display has been modified. |
| 09018173351 | 2017-09-27. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL. Some customers may complain that the ambient temperature display is not accurate, or it takes too long for the display to show actual temperature. When you encounter a customer with this concern, first verify the condition when the customer noticed this symptom. If the condition is similar to the following "CONTROL LOGIC OF AMBIENT TEMPERATURE" or "DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TEMPERATURE DISPLAY AND OTHERS", advise the customer that this is a normal characteristic of the vehicle and not a malfunction. If the condition does not meet the following and the sensor malfunction is suspected, make sure to inspect the sensor according to MGSSonline or Workshop Manual (section 09-22 AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSPECTION). Replace the sensor only when it fails the Workshop Manual inspection. |
