Service bulletins for the 2018 Mazda CX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Some customers may experience a check engine light illumination with DTCs P24C6:00, P24C7:00, P24AE:00, P24B1:00 and/or P24AF:00 stored in PCM memory. - P24C6:00 - PM sensor: internal temperature sensor malfunction (1DC DTC) - P24C7:00 - PM sensor temperature circuit range/performance (2DC DTC) - P24AE:00 - PM sensor control circuit range/performance problem (1DC DTC) - P24B1:00 - PM sensor circuit high input (1DC DTC) - P24AF:00 - PM sensor circuit range/performance (2DC DTC) [Particulate Matter (PM) Sensor] DTCs may be caused by the following: - DTC P24C6:00: May be caused by water condensation in the exhaust system which may accumulate on the PM sensor element and result in cracks. - DTCs P24AE:00, P24B1:00, P24AF:00: May also be caused by water condensation in the exhaust system which may accumulate on the PM sensor element and result in an incorrect output signal. To eliminate these DTCs, the following improvements have been made: - The PM sensor has been improved (DTC P24C6:00). - The mounting orientation of the PM sensor has been changed to reduce water accumulation (DTCs P24AE:00, P24B1:00, P24AF:00). - The detection condition of DTCs P24AE:00 and P24B1:00 has been changed to 2DC, which will no longer detect a temporary incorrect sensor output.
SA-044-222022-07-06. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:HOSES/LINES/PIPING/FITTINGS; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some customers may complain about an unusual thumping / rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. The noise is most pronounced under the following conditions: - Engine at idle - Transmission in drive - Foot on the brake pedal - A/C OFF - Audio OFF The noise may be caused by loose fitting heater hoses vibrating the heater hose bracket protector. 02-004-222022-06-04. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. Some customers may complain of signs of oil on the struts or shock absorbers. In most cases the oil that is present is normal, and a result of the oil that remains on the shaft during the normal sweeping process of the shaft seal. Follow the inspection guidelines below to determine if the condition is a result of the normal sweeping process or a failure of the shaft seal.
01-004-222022-06-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some customers may experience the CHECK ENGINE light ON at idle with DTC P22FB:00 [DCU] and P1640:00 [PCM] stored in memory. *P22FB:00 [DCU]: NOx sensor No.1: On-board diagnostics canceled *P1640:00 [PCM]: Powertrain DTCs available in dosing control unit This is caused by a false malfunction detection occurring under certain conditions. To eliminate this concern, the detection condition of DTC P22FB:00 has been changed.
SA-001-22c2022-06-04. Service bulletin. COMMUNICATION:MANUFACTURER TELEMATICS; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:INFOTAINMENT; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Use the symptom troubleshooting tables to diagnose MAZDA CONNECT concerns.

This may be caused by water penetrating from micro cracks existing on the lock striker's coating surface that reacts with zinc contained in the undercoating and produces the corrosion. To eliminate this concern, a modified undercoating has been established for the liftgate lock striker.
08-003-222022-05-05. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS. Some customers may experience the airbag warning light ON with DTC B00A0:09 stored in the SAS control module memory when the battery voltage is low. *DTC B00A0:09 (Occupant classification sensor internal signal output unstable) This concern is caused by the low voltage detection time of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) being too short during cranking, which causes detection of the DTC unnecessarily. The concern occurs more often in colder weather when greater electric current is consumed to start the vehicle. To eliminate this concern, the OCS has been modified to avoid unnecessary DTC detection. NOTE: *Even if the voltage is recovered after the engine is started, the airbag warning light stays ON during the drive cycle. *When the battery voltage becomes stable after the engine is started, the airbag system will operate normally.

No repair is needed. Explain to the customer not to continue filling after nozzle shut off. Refer customer to Owner's Manual Warning:
04-001/222022-04-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles may exhibit a click or squeak noise from the front brakes under the following conditions: 2016-2022 CX-9 2018-2022 CX-5 (Click noise): 1. When first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR 2. When first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. Cause: Due to deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Mass-Production Change: None 2016-2018 CX-9 (Squeak noise): During light braking. Cause: Occurs when the front brake pads have been worn to certain levels. As the pads wear, the chamfer goes away and the grease between the pad and the shim deteriorates. Mass-Production Change: As of Apr. 27, 2018, the chamfer shape of the brake pad was improved to increase durability.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
