Service bulletins for the 2018 Mazda CX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SA-037-202020-04-06. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA. Some vehicles may have one of the following DTCs stored in memory: • C1001:92 - Forward sensing camera (FSC) poor field of view • B14F0:92 - General temporary failure in forward sensing camera (FSC) DTC C1001:92 or B14F0:92 set as a past record for low visibility of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). It does not mean there is an actual FSC defect. • In some cases the customer may have a concern with the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and/or High Beam Control system (HBC). • In other cases this DTC might be found without a related customer concern. NOTE: Instrument Cluster Multi-Information Display Warning Messages vary depending on vehicle year/model. See the Owner's Manual for details.
SA-036-202020-04-06. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. The owner’s manual contains procedures and precautions for the maintenance and cleaning of plastic parts, like the brand emblem. However, it is still important to remind customers about these precautions. Customers should never use inadequate, harsh or aggressive cleaning products on plastic parts. CAUTION: Be aware that when cleaning the brand emblem, never use cleaning products that are highly acidic/alkaline detergent, organic solvents or those with aggressive chemical products, otherwise, the brand emblem may become cracked and/or deformed (as shown in the example below). Always refer customers to the owner’s manual for proper cleaning using cold or lukewarm water and a mild, neutral detergent.
SA-035-20a2020-04-06. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some customers may experience the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON with DTC P0126:00 (Thermostat stuck open) and one or more of the following symptoms: • The engine takes longer to warm up. • The engine temperature gauge fluctuates. • The low coolant temperature indicator (blue) light stays on longer or comes on while driving. • Poor heater performance, especially at idle.
SA-025-20a2020-04-06. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; POWER TRAIN. A valve tapping or knocking noise may be heard from the top end after the engine cools down (the vehicle is parked overnight) or after it has been idling for an extended time. The tapping noise will decreases as the vehicle is being driven or if the rpm is held above 2500 -3000 RPM. This may be caused by the valve Hydraulic Lifters (HLA) bleeding down as the engine cools or when the engine has been idling for an extended period of time, creating excessive valve lash clearance.
04-005-20-36872020-04-03. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise from the rear brakes while braking lightly. The squeak noise may occur more frequently when driving at slow speeds. The noise is caused by poor contact between the guide plate and the mounting support.
00-001-20-36892020-04-03. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Mazda recommends dealers follow the scheduled maintenance tables as cited in the vehicle specific workshop manual or owner's manual. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers.
04-003-20-36682020-02-29. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles may exhibit grooves (1) in rear brake disc plate(s), as shown below. This concern is mostly found on new or low mileage vehicles, when the brakes are new. The grooves may be caused through abrasion from the accumulation of metal particles from the rear brake disc plates. The metal particles get caught between the brake pads and disc plates causing groove damage. To eliminate this concern, the disc plate surface honing process has been changed to reduce metal particle formation.
02-004-20-36852020-02-29. Service bulletin. WHEELS. Some automotive cleaning products contain strong acid or alkali. When these types of cleaners are used to clean the wheels on Mazda vehicles, the chemicals contents penetrate the clear coating of the wheel surface and damage the paint under the clear coating. The damaged area has the appearance of dark stains.
01-003-20-36542020-02-29. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some customers may experience a check engine light illumination with DTCs P24C6:00, P24AE:00, P24B1:00 and/or P24AF:00 stored in PCM memory. P24C6:00 - PM sensor: internal temperature sensor malfunction (1DC DTC) P24AE:00 - PM sensor control circuit range/performance problem (1DC DTC) P24B1:00 - PM sensor circuit high input (1DC DTC) P24AF:00 - PM sensor circuit range/performance (2DC DTC) [Particulate Matter (PM) Sensor] DTCs may be caused by the following: DTC P24C6:00: May be caused by water condensation in the exhaust system which may accumulate on the PM sensor element and result in cracks. DTCs P24AE:00, P24B1:00, P24AF:00: May also be caused by water condensation in the exhaust system which may accumulate on the PM sensor element and result in an incorrect output signal. To eliminate these DTCs, the following improvements have been made: The PM sensor has been improved (DTC P24C6:00). The mounting orientation of the PM sensor has been changed to reduce water accumulation (DTCs P24AE:00, P24B1:00, P24AF:00). The detection condition of DTCs P24AE:00 and P24B1:00 has been changed to 2DC, which will no longer detect a temporary incorrect sensor output

As a past malfunction, the customer will not notice it (no warning light illuminated), but the DTC may be found during a vehicle service. P2507 in this situation is only applicable on 2016 and later models. This is caused by the engine being started 3 or more times after a short duration of engine off (less than 15 seconds) with the room fused removed. NOTE: The odometer will display “F0-002” during transport mode (room fuse 15A removed). Transport mode is canceled when room fuse 15A is installed or the vehicle odometer is more than 12.4mi (20km).Vehicles in dealer inventory with this concern should be repaired using the following repair procedure.
09-003-20-36712020-01-23. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer’s responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometer and related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement. • Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers. • When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles. • This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage. • Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the “Speedometer Replacement Label”. Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore. • In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda’s vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO’s services, it is possible that the odometer will be set between 10 to 31 miles over the odometer mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs. Please make sure that the customer is aware that there may be a slight variance to the odometer, in which case the customer may have to accept the slightly higher mileage. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after- warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense.
