Service bulletins for the 2017 Lincoln Continental
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| SSM 47854 | 2019-04-03. Service bulletin. STEERING. Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty, 2017-2019 Continental, 2016-2019 Edge, 2016-2018 MKX, 2019 Nautilus vehicles may exhibit a U3000:49 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) setting in the Steering Effort Control Module (SECM) with no other DTCs present. To eliminate the DTC, perform the IDS SASM module reset routine. The IDS reset routine is available under Toolbox > Chassis > Steering > Adaptive Front Steering > SASM Module Reset. Do not attempt any repairs at this time. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates. For claiming, use causal part 3600 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. |

| SSM 47850 | 2019-04-03. Service bulletin. STEERING; STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR. 2017-2019 F-Super Duty, 2017-2019 Continental, 2015-2019 Edge, 2016-2018 MKX and 2019 Nautilus vehicles may exhibit an inoperative heated steering wheel. For vehicles equipped with adaptive steering, the steering effort control module (SECM) controls the heated steering wheel feature and is internal to the vehicle's steering wheel. For vehicles not equipped with adaptive steering, the heated steering wheel module (HSWM) controls the heated steering wheel feature and is separate from the steering wheel. Using the OASIS Tab drop down > HVBoM > Features button or an appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool, you can determine if the vehicle is equipped with Adaptive Steering. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 211-05. |
| SSM 47638 | 2019-01-07. Service bulletin. STEERING; STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR. 2013-2019 vehicles equipped with a LKS system with customer complaints of steering wheel vibration, steering pull or vehicle drift may be due to an alert and/or steering aid input from the LKS. The LKS system detects unintentional drifting toward the outside of the lane and alerts and/or aids vehicle to stay in the lane. Be sure the customer understands how the lane departure warning feature settings work for Alert (steering wheel vibration) and Aid (steering input toward lane center). Further information on the LKS can be found in the owners manual. If the customers concern is due to the LKS functioning as intended, do not attempt to repair. |
| SSM 47489 | 2018-09-24. Service bulletin. STEERING. When connecting the Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) to the DLC located on the driver side under the steering column at the GWM, make sure that the ignition is off before connecting the VCM. If the ignition is on or the engine is running during the connection, it can result in various warning lights being illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), no start, no crank conditions or the IPC inoperative. If a vehicle displays these issues, disconnect the equipment from the DLC and disconnect the vehicle battery. Wait 10 minutes and reinstall with the ignition off. Clear any DTCs present and retest. |
| SSM 47103 | 2018-05-14. Service bulletin. STEERING. Some 2017-2018 Continental/F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit a DTC B13BD in the steering effort control module (SECM). This DTC sets when the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) self test is run and is a result of a software issue between the SECM and the IDS. After the IDS self test is run DTC B13BD sets and the heated steering wheel is disabled. To eliminate the DTC and return the heated steering wheel functionality, perform the IDS SASM module reset routine. The IDS reset routine is available under Toolbox > Chassis > Steering > Adaptive Front Steering > SASM Module Reset. For claiming, use causal part 3600 and applicable labor operations in section 10 of the service labor time standards (SLTS) manual. |
| SSM 46945 | 2018-01-29. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING; STRUCTURE. Some 2017 Continental vehicles built on or before 31-May-2017 may exhibit a steering wheel that does not move far enough when entering or exiting the vehicle. Reprogram the body control module B (BCMB) using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) release 105.04 or higher. After reprograming, perform an as-built configuration of the BCMB. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com. For claiming, use causal part 14B561 and applicable labor operations in section 10 of the service labor time standards (SLTS) manual. |
| SSM 46118 | 2017-02-07. Service bulletin. STEERING. WHEN HOOKING UP THE VEHICLE COMMUNICATION MODULE (VCM) AND INTEGRATED DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (IDS) TO THE DLC LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN AT THE GWM, MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION IS OFF BEFORE CONNECTING TO IDS. IF THE IGNITION IS ON OR THE ENGINE IS RUNNING DURING THE HOOK UP, IT CAN RESULT IN VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS BEING ILLUMINATED WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS), NO START OR NO CRANK CONDITIONS OR THE CLUSTER INOPERATIVE. FOR LINCOLN VEHICLES, THIS INFORMATION IS NOW LISTED IN THE TECHNICAL INSPECTION AND POST ROAD TEST SECTIONS OF EPDI ON THE PTS WEBSITE. IF A VEHICLE DISPLAYS THESE ISSUES, DISCONNECT THE EQUIPMENT FROM THE DLC AND REINSTALL WITH THE IGNITION OFF. CLEAR ANY DTCS PRESENT AND RETEST. |
