Service bulletins for the 2016 Ford Transit
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| SSM 47444 | 2018-09-24. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2016-2018 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 not at the latest software level may exhibit Various Performance Related concerns such as Display Operation, Navigation, Voice Recognition, Phone Pairing, Applink, Travel Link, Slow System Response, etc. Check for SYNC software update under the OASIS Tab SYNC selection. If an update is available refer to WSM, Section 415-00 and update the APIM software. After Installation, complete pop-up appears, remove USB flash drive and install into IDS tool to update Ford database. Perform a complete ignition cycle by turning the key off for 5 minutes which is critical for a successful installation. If no updates are available or a blue or black screen is present after an update refer to WSM, Section 415-00 for diagnosis or SYNC 3 intermittent blank screen GSB for tips. For claiming, use causal part 14G371 and applicable labor operations in section 10 of the SLTS manual. |

| SSM 47423 | 2018-09-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. Replacement engines may have a fuel injection pump sprocket that does not include a keyway slot. It is acceptable to utilize the original fuel injection pump if it has a keyway slot. Timing the injection pump is not necessary. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04C removal and installation fuel injection pump and disregard align the sprocket key wording. |
| SSM 47401 | 2018-09-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with the Auxiliary Heater / A/C Prep Package 62C are built specifically for A/C system modification. This can be identified on the Professional Technician Society (PTS) website by using vehicle identification number (VIN) > OASIS tab > Vehicle Information > Additional information will be shown as: GZBAC - heater/A/C prep pack. The upfitter who adds their rear A/C components is responsible for filling their system and specifying the new refrigerant charge level. Do not submit warranty claims for insufficient refrigerant charge unless a defective Ford part or component is identified as the causal part. Consult the upfitter who performed the modification if refrigerant charge level is in question or a defect is present within the add-on system. |
| tsb18-2223 | 2018-09-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE). Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may exhibit "Drive To Clean" maintenance messages and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with DTC P2459, P2463, and/or P246C. Vehicles may also exhibit frequent automatic exhaust regeneration attempts. This may be due to vehicles being used in a stationary or off-highway, low speed applications. If automatic regeneration attempts are unsuccessful, these symptoms may be a result of soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter (DPF). These vehicles may benefit from operator commanded regeneration (OCR) capability so complete regeneration cycles may be performed in a stationary setting. Information only, follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. |

This noise may be caused by a cracked piston skirt. The noise can be isolated to a cylinder using a stethoscope or other suitable listening device. Canceling the affected cylinder will reduce or eliminate the noise. If the noise is isolated to a specific cylinder, it is recommended to replace the short block. If the noise cannot be isolated using the methods described, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM) for diagnosis. A cracked piston skirt does not result in metal contamination of the engine or any related cylinder head damage. Prior approval for short block replacement is not required under new vehicle limited warranty coverage. |

| SSM 47379 | 2018-07-23. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. Various 2016-2018 vehicles with SYNC 3 may experience a touch screen that does not respond to any input. Using the Professional Technician Society (PTS) website > OASIS tab > SYNC version, verify the vehicle SYNC software version. If the vehicle is at version 2.2 please update the module to the latest software level. After the software is updated make sure you shut the vehicle off, open the door for 2 minutes, then turn the key back on before testing the touch screen. If the software is at a later version than 2.2, proceed with normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 415-00. This may be due to incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Prior to performing Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test RJ, ensure DEF concentration is checked using Central Tools Refractometer tool number CEN3R201 and if DEF contamination is suspected use the Rotunda Hydrocarbon Test Kit tool number 328-480508. |

The Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01 has been updated to include the correct location to apply sealant to the rear crankshaft seal. When repairing a rear crankshaft oil leak condition, a 3 mm (0.120 in) bead of Motorcraftù Silicone Gasket and Sealant TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4) or equivalent must be applied to the joints where the ladder frame meets the engine block. Failure to follow the updated procedure in WSM, Section 303-01 may result in a repeat oil leak at the rear of the engine. |

| SSM 46999 | 2018-06-11. Service bulletin. SEAT BELTS:FRONT:RETRACTOR; SEAT BELTS. Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles may exhibit front seat safety belts that do not extend or retract properly or may exhibit an abnormal noise. Verify if the vehicle has been modified, in particular if a bulkhead partition between the front seats and cargo area has been added to the vehicle. Fasteners or holes in the lower b-pillar are indicators that the seat belt retractor mechanism could have been compromised. If diagnostics lead to retractor replacement, inspect for drill or screw holes in the retractor housing. Damage to the seat belt retractor caused by a vehicle modifier is not warrantable. |
