Service bulletins for the 2016 Ford Transit

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

SSM 524762024-05-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. All accessory stick-on keyless entry keypads come with a wallet card containing the master code. If the accessory keypad was factory installed, this card will be placed in the glove box and should be handed to the vehicles owner during initial delivery. Unlike the integrated (wired) factory keypad, the accessory keypad master code cannot be retrieved from the vehicle using a diagnostic scan tool. If the wallet card for an accessory keypad is lost, follow these steps to recover the code. Dealer Key Code access is granted through the Dealer Program Enrollment System (DPES); dealership management can authorize users. The authorized user must go to FMCDealer.com > Parts and Service > Parts Product Line Information > Keys/Entry Devices > Aftermarket Keyless Entry Keypad Code Access. Follow the instructions on the screen to obtain the master code for the accessory keypad.

TSB 20-22142020-11-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; POWER TRAIN. Some 2015-2020 Transit vehicles equipped with rear wheel drive (RWD), single rear wheel (SRW) and a U-joint at the transmission flange and rear driveshaft may experience a boom/hum/moan noise or vibration from the rear while driving. This noise or vibration is most prevalent at highway speeds (112-121 km/h 70-75 mph for 4.10 axle ratio, 121-128 km/h75-80 mph for 3.73 axle ratio, and 136-145 km/h 85-90 mph for 3.31 axle ratio) and may also be present to a lesser degree at roughly half of those speeds. This may be due to a 2nd order driveline frequency transmitted through the rear drive shaft, rear axle and into the body through the leaf springs. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to install a driveshaft torsional damper.
SSM 489082020-07-07. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2016-2020 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a SYNC 3 Touchscreen may experience the volume control unresponsive from the Front Control Interface Module (FCIM) and steering volume controls when using Apple Car Play. When the Apple device is removed, volume control is restored. This is due to a concern with the Waze Navigation App software and Apple iOS version. To correct the condition, update the Waze App software and iOS to the latest version available and reboot the customer's Apple device. Perform an ignition cycle and reconnect the Apple device via USB. Open Apple Car Play and confirm volume control is restored. Installing/Updating third party software/applications is not warrantable.
TSB 19-23882020-01-07. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may exhibit poor air conditioning (A/C) performance. If the cause of this is found to be a refrigerant leak from the evaporator, this may be due to build up of contaminates inside the evaporator housing. To correct this concern, replace only the evaporator housing and install a cabin air filter as opposed to replacing the entire climate control housing assembly.
TSB 19-21662019-07-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some 2015-2019 Transit vehicles may exhibit poor air conditioning (A/C) performance. If the cause of this is found to be a refrigerant leak from the evaporator, it is recommended to replace only the evaporator case as opposed to the entire climate control housing assembly. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SSM 478502019-05-07. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some 2013-2019 vehicles equipped with a EVDC air conditioning (A/C) compressor may exhibit poor A/C performance/improper climate function and/or a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P06A0 in the powertrain control module (PCM). To support the proper diagnosis of this compressor, the EVDC control valve tester has been developed and is available from Rotunda (339-EVDC100). A tester has been provided to each U.S. dealership free of charge with shipments completed 19-Apr-2019 (reference EFC07013 on FMCDealer.com). This tester will help reduce the potential for misdiagnosis and unnecessary compressor replacement. Make sure that this tester is used for warranty repairs and document the test results in the Technician Comments field. Refer to the Rotunda catalog for a video and user manual which provide detailed operating instructions.
SSM 478482019-04-03. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2015-2019 Transit High Roof Bus/Passenger Wagon vehicles may have a headliner that does not stay seated at the C and/or C and half pillar hard trim. A permanent repair solution for the existing headliners has been developed and is expected to be available via TSB by late 2nd quarter 2019. Continue to monitor OASIS for updates. In preparation for the TSB repair, encourage your parts department to locally source 3M 04747 Super Repair Adhesive and mixing nozzles 3M 38191 (12 pack) or 38193 (50 pack) if you anticipate performing the upcoming repair. Do not fabricate alternative headliner attachment methods as an interim repair. Headliner retention in these areas is intentionally delicate to allow for proper side curtain airbag deployment.
SSM 477492019-03-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some 2012-2019 Vehicles may require repairs to the Smartlink system. Smartlink is a Ford Licensed Accessory which has a warranty provided by the accessory manufacturer. Warranty replacement parts for Smartlink that are ordered through Ford are not reimbursable through the Ford Motor Company warranty system. Please see the Warranty and Policy Manual for further information on Ford Licensed Accessories.
SSM 474232018-09-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. Replacement engines may have a fuel injection pump sprocket that does not include a keyway slot. It is acceptable to utilize the original fuel injection pump if it has a keyway slot. Timing the injection pump is not necessary. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04C removal and installation fuel injection pump and disregard align the sprocket key wording.
SSM 474012018-09-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with the Auxiliary Heater / A/C Prep Package 62C are built specifically for A/C system modification. This can be identified on the Professional Technician Society (PTS) website by using vehicle identification number (VIN) > OASIS tab > Vehicle Information > Additional information will be shown as: GZBAC - heater/A/C prep pack. The upfitter who adds their rear A/C components is responsible for filling their system and specifying the new refrigerant charge level. Do not submit warranty claims for insufficient refrigerant charge unless a defective Ford part or component is identified as the causal part. Consult the upfitter who performed the modification if refrigerant charge level is in question or a defect is present within the add-on system.
tsb18-21892018-09-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE). Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may exhibit "Drive To Clean" maintenance messages and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with DTC P2459, P2463, and/or P246C. Vehicles may also exhibit frequent automatic exhaust regeneration attempts. This may be due to vehicles being used in a stationary or off-highway, low speed applications. If automatic regeneration attempts are unsuccessful, these symptoms may be a result of soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter (DPF). These vehicles may benefit from operator commanded regeneration (OCR) capability so complete regeneration cycles may be performed in a stationary setting. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
CBC-2018-0012018-08-06. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. OEM AC line inspection
CBC-2018-0012018-07-30. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. OEM AC line inspection
SSM 473942018-07-23. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2013-2018 F-150, 2015-2018 Transit/Expedition, and 2015-2017 Navigator vehicles equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine with greater than 20,000 miles may exhibit a tick type noise from the cylinder block area. This noise may be caused by a cracked piston skirt. The noise can be isolated to a cylinder using a stethoscope or other suitable listening device. Canceling the affected cylinder will reduce or eliminate the noise. If the noise is isolated to a specific cylinder, it is recommended to replace the short block. If the noise cannot be isolated using the methods described, refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM) for diagnosis. A cracked piston skirt does not result in metal contamination of the engine or any related cylinder head damage. Prior approval for short block replacement is not required under new vehicle limited warranty coverage.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
