Service bulletins for the 2014 BMW X5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

A fault in the parking brake (EMF) switch could cause a Check Control message (Parking Brake Failure) to display. However, all braking functions, including the parking brake and switch continue to operate properly in this case. Affected vehicles in center inventory must not be delivered until the parking brake switch has been replaced. Parking brake switches for the F15 must be ordered VIN-specific. Refer to Service Information bulletin B61 20 13 for the part number and complete instructions. Parts for the F01 and F02 are not available at this time. If code number 658 has been punched out, the campaign has already been performed. If code number 658 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the ""Service Menu"" of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key Reader. Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action."
6117132018-12-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "Various Electrical Complaints Associated with BDC. One or more of the following situations may occur: * The customer operates the windshield wiper washer system, which activates the headlight washers automatically. The windshield wipers operate two times and then stop after the headlight washers activate. The windshield wipers then have to be turned on again manually. * After the customer stops the wipers by pressing the button on the wiper control lever, the wipers remain approximately 15 cm above the lowest position and do not go into the normal park position. * The customer states that the control LEDs for rear seat heating (option code 496, rear seat heating) do not light up after switching on the rear heated seats, using the button. * When the key remote is placed in front of the instrument cluster and the brake pedal is applied to start the vehicle, a Check Control Message, ""No remote control/engine cannot be started,"" is displayed. The engine starts once the key is moved to another location. CAUSE Software error in the BDC (Body Domain Controller)"

This Service Information bulletin is being published because vehicles are down for an extended period of time when researching system failures with ConnectedDrive or BMW Assist. This Service Information bulletin will assist you both in identifying the issue and providing technical support. CAUSE Not enough information is available for BMW NA engineers to assist the technician in diagnosing the root cause.
B1111172018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?ENGINE LEAK DIAGNOSIS ON TURBOCHARGED V8 ENGINES. When diagnosing an engine oil leak or a coolant leak on turbocharged V8 engines it is necessary to use a borescope to identify if the source of the leak is from under the turbochargers. Engine oil or coolant leaking from the bell housing area or the front timing chain cover area may be caused by the turbocharger itself, a turbocharger oil/coolant feed line or turbocharger oil/coolant return line. Do not remove the transmission and do not dissemble the engine before performing this inspection. If necessary, use engine oil leakage detection dye.
B1227162018-11-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DIAGNOSING NON FUNCTIONING eDRIVE. * Vehicle will not go into "eDrive" * No pertinent electric drivetrain fault codes to assist with diagnosis * "eDrive" may be greyed-out in the Central Information Display (CID) and is not selectable * MSA deactivation * 12 volt battery failure * Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) failure.
B1101132018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE. N63 AND N63T ENGINE: ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, ENGINE OIL TOP-UPS AND REFILL CAPACITY. Customers with one of the vehicles above may complain that the engine's oil consumption is "too high," resulting in engine oil top-ups and workshop visits to address the issue before the vehicle displays an engine oil service as being "due." When the vehicle's engine oil drops to the minimum level, a message will display in the vehicle advising the driver to "add 1 quart of engine oil." After topping up and continued operation, the "add engine oil" message may display again before an engine oil service is required and performed. CAUSE Engines that are fitted with a turbocharger, as part of their normal operation, will consume engine oil at a higher rate than a naturally aspirated engine (non-turbocharged engine). In this case, a "turbocharged" engine could require topping up of the engine oil more frequently.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
