Service bulletins for the 2016 BMW i3

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

256 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

B6507152018-12-17. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "Airbag Warning Light ON: Fault 930BE8, High-voltage System Shutdown. The airbag warning light in the instrument cluster is on, or the check control message (CCM) ""Restraint system faulty"" is displayed. The advance crash safety module (ACSM4I) has fault code 930BE8 ""High-voltage system switch-off Range extender Electrical Machine Electronics (REME)/battery management electronics: Resistance too high"" stored. A sporadically poor connection causes high resistance in the airbag ignition circuit."
B6138142018-12-17. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Drivetrain Malfunction (CCM 794) with Isolation Faults. The Drivetrain Malfunction check control message (CCM 794) is displayed, either while driving or when starting up. The following faults are stored in the vehicle: EME: 22280F and/or 222814 SME: 21F0E3 and/or 21F0E4 When the CCM is present, there are no apparent drivability concerns. After allowing the vehicle to rest and then restart, the CCM typically does not reappear. CAUSE The cause of an isolation fault is generally a resistance between HV+ or HV- and the shield/chassis ground, which is below a predetermined threshold. The following procedure addresses these faults when caused by a defect in the cable between the HV battery and the EME, as well as when excess moisture is present inside the REx eMachine. This moisture condenses and triggers the above-mentioned faults after a long REx runtime followed by rapid cooling.
B6135142018-12-17. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "?SI B61 35 14 General Electrical Systems April 2015 Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B61 35 14 dated March 2015. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Displayed Range Is Lower After Programming. After the vehicle is programmed with ISTA/P 3.53.3 (i-level I001-14-07-503), the displayed vehicle range in the instrument cluster is lower than prior to the software update. The actual range that the vehicle is capable of achieving on a full charge has not changed. The difference between the displayed range and actual range is always conservative, yet this difference varies based on driving profile.

A grating and/or squeaking noise from the front axle occurs when turning at low speeds or idle. The noise is most noticeable at low temperatures (approx. 32 degrees F), but not unusual at higher temperatures and after driving. Friction between the spring pad and the strut upper support bearing is causing the noise.
B6410162018-12-10. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. KNOCKING NOISE FROM RF WHEEL AREA WHEN A/C IS ACTIVATED. A knocking noise is heard when entering drive readiness or after driving a short distance with the air conditioning activated. This only affects vehicles with a heat pump (option code 4T9). Note: The noise can only be reproduced once after a restart, then the vehicle must sit for some time before the noise can be heard again. Air Conditioning (A/C) receiver/dryer located near the RF wheel well area.
B6138142018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Drivetrain Malfunction (CCM 794) with Isolation Faults. B6112162018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. DC Charging - Customer Focused Diagnosis. Diagnosing DC charging complaints requires a precise problem description from the customer, as well as thorough vehicle-side work to find a reliable root cause. Because of the sporadic nature of majority of DC charging issues, the customer's input is invaluable to finding the correct solution.
B6108162018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. "DC/DC Converter does not supply sufficient 12V power.
