Service bulletins for the 2016 BMW i3

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

256 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

B3205142018-11-13. Service bulletin. STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR; STEERING. "Steering Wheel Does Not Return to Center. INFORMATION Do not replace any parts for this complaint. The return behavior is inherent in the design of the EPS. An EPS ""break in"" period of approximately 2000 miles is required. Once this phase is completed, the level of friction is significantly reduced and no longer affects the return to center. Please use this information to educate the customer on the ""break in"" period of the EPS. WARRANTY INFORMATION Not applicable."
B6119152018-11-05. Service bulletin. STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR; STEERING:COLUMN; STEERING. Grating or Scraping Noise When Turning Steering Wheel. There is a grating or scraping noise when the steering wheel is turned. The noise comes from the steering column switch cluster (SZL), coil spring or steering wheel. CAUSE When the steering wheel is turned, the connection between the steering wheel and the steering column switch cluster causes torsional stress, which creates a noise in the coil spring cassette.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
