Service bulletins for the 2016 BMW i3
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.
256 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

| B340517 | 2020-04-20. Service bulletin. BACK OVER PREVENTION; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; WHEELS; POWER TRAIN. TICKING NOISE WHILE CORNERING WITHOUT THE BRAKES APPLIED: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 3) replaces SI B34 05 17 dated September 2017. Ticking noise coming from front wheel while cornering without brakes applied noticeable at low speeds. The vehicle must be moving. See attached video V34 01 20 Note: For a similar noise heard when parking with the brakes applied refer to SIB 31 01 12. Microscopic movement of the contact interface between the inner brake disc and the wheel bearing flange on vehicles equipped with lightweight brake discs. |

| B321119 | 2020-04-20. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY; POWER TRAIN; AIR BAGS; STEERING. SPORADIC REDUCTION OF STEERING ASSISTANCE: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B32 11 19 dated October 2019. The driver notices a reduction of steering assistance sporadically while in certain driving situations. Steering control is never lost when the reduction of assistance occurs. The fault may self-correct for no obvious reason or be eliminated with a terminal change/key cycle. There is no Check Control (CC) message when the issue occurs. Unfavorable software in the Electric Power Steering (EPS). |
| B121219 | 2019-06-24. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING. The electrical machine electronics (EME) Printed Circuit Board (PCB) may not have been produced to specifications. In the event that the EME detects this condition it will shut down high-voltage electrical power. A shut down of high-voltage electrical power would result in a loss of propulsion increasing the risk of a crash. However the 12-volt electrical power remains functional to support power steering and braking. |
| B613814 | 2018-12-17. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Drivetrain Malfunction (CCM 794) with Isolation Faults. The Drivetrain Malfunction check control message (CCM 794) is displayed, either while driving or when starting up. The following faults are stored in the vehicle: EME: 22280F and/or 222814 SME: 21F0E3 and/or 21F0E4 When the CCM is present, there are no apparent drivability concerns. After allowing the vehicle to rest and then restart, the CCM typically does not reappear. CAUSE The cause of an isolation fault is generally a resistance between HV+ or HV- and the shield/chassis ground, which is below a predetermined threshold. The following procedure addresses these faults when caused by a defect in the cable between the HV battery and the EME, as well as when excess moisture is present inside the REx eMachine. This moisture condenses and triggers the above-mentioned faults after a long REx runtime followed by rapid cooling. |
| B270115 | 2018-11-13. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS. SUBJECT Service Action: Replace Park Lock Actuator. Unfavorable tolerances in the park lock actuator may lead to a functional failure or unusual noises when it is activated. As a result, the park lock actuator must be replaced on affected vehicles. Affected vehicles in dealer inventory must not be retailed or delivered until this issue is corrected. Vehicles at ports of entry will be repaired prior to dealer delivery. |
| 613814 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. ?SI B61 38 14 February 2015 General Electrical SystemsTechnical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B61 38 14 dated January 2015. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Drivetrain Malfunction (CCM 794) with Isolation Faults. The Drivetrain Malfunction check control message (CCM 794) is displayed, either while driving or when starting up. | 610215 | 2018-11-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. "MCheck Control Message ""Battery Discharge"" Displays Intermittently. The customer states that a ""Battery Discharge"" check control message is displayed intermittently when the vehicle is started. The following fault code is also stored: DME ""213901 - Power management: Reduction or switch-off of individual electrical consumers"" DME/IBS software error." |
| B610518 | 2018-08-06. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. SERVICE ACTION: KLE - CONVENIENCE CHARGING ELECTRONICS I01 REX: OBD relevant diagnoses of the KLE (convenience charging electronics) cannot be processed correctly because of a data transmission error in the EME (electrical machine electronics). |
| B614617 | 2018-07-16. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. LACK OF POWER OR DRIVING READINESS CANNOT BE ESTABLISHED: Drive parameters (speed and torque) may be restricted. |
