Service bulletins for the 2012 Volkswagen Passat
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

If key blade is found to stick or bind when opening or closing, check position of roll pin that secures key blade to mechanism. If roll pin is sticking out on either side (as shown below), do not replace key. Instead, use appropriate sized punch and hammer to drive in the roll pin so that it is flush with edge of mechanism. |
| TT571107 | 2023-07-10. Service bulletin. UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. The valet key on the 2012-2013 Passat differs from earlier vehicles. The valet key is used to lock the glove box, ski pass-through door (if equipped), and the emergency seat back release cover only. The valet switch in the glove box can be activated to disable the rear lid release switches (including remote function), and then lock the glove box with the valet key. The customer then keeps the plastic valet key and gives the valet the remote flip key. |

BACK OVER PREVENTION; STEERING:RACK AND PINION:RACK; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ADAS:PARKING ASSIST:SENSORS; POWER TRAIN; STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING:STEERING CONTROL MODULE. Some Golf, GTI, Jetta, and Passat vehicles equipped with electromechanical power steering have the G85 steering angle sensor located in the steering rack. These vehicles do not have a G85 in the steering column. To determine G85 location, check the J500 Power steering control module part number in the GFF printout. Do not use the part number on the steering rack for this check. |
| TT450903 | 2023-07-10. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; STEERING; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:ELECTRIC:CONTROL MODULE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING:RACK AND PINION:RACK. If, after replacement of the steering rack, fault code 01309 008 is set in the ABS/ESP module only, follow the test plan in GFF for Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) or channel 3 activation. If the test plan fails to clear the fault, follow the direction below using Vehicle Self Diagnosis in Address Word 44 - Steering Assistance |
| TT4506122 | 2023-07-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:INSTRUMENT PANEL:SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER:SENSOR/SENDING UNIT; SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE. Use the following procedure to diagnose active wheel speed sensor complaints |

| TT271301 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. When diagnosing a generator charging concern, it is recommended to verify operation of the one way clutch located in the generator pulley (if equipped) before replacing generator assembly. To check the one way clutch, remove the belt from the generator pulley and use a trim removal tool to hold fan blades inside generator, as shown below. When attempting to turn pulley by hand with fan blades held, pulley should spin freely in only one direction. If pulley spins freely in both directions, the one way clutch has failed and should be replaced before continuing diagnosis. |
| TT271102 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. When diagnosing a low battery or no charging system concern, start by inspecting the SA1 200 amp fuse in the SA fuse block. DO NOT replace the generator. Perform a voltage drop test between threaded connections 508 and SA1 as shown in Figure 1. If the voltage drop is above .02V, disconnect the battery and remove the cables at the 508 connection and the SA1 connection. Check for continuity of the threaded plate connection between 508 and SA1. If fuse SA1 is found to have an open circuit, replace the fuse and check the threaded connections closely. |
| TT261402 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Disconnect both O2 sensors (front and rear), start engine and let idle. Check MVB's 41/4 and 136/4 and verify have both changed from a 1 to a 0 (you may have to drive the car 4 miles to get them to reset to 0). Also a key cycle may be required for values to reset. This forces the ECM to re-learn the O2 sensor adaptation. Once MVB 41/4 and 136/4 read 0, re-connect the O2 sensors, road test and recheck for faults. |
| TT261303 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Use of aftermarket air filters such as cotton bed steel mesh or cone style, can cause the MAF sensor to not read accurately, affecting vehicle performance and critical monitoring functions for the diesel particulate filter. This can also result in premature DPF failure. Only use factory air filters. The use of aftermarket air filters is not supported as the system was designed and calibrated to work with factory air filters. |
| TT261202 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. AdBlue Level Reset Procedure |
| TT241303 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM). When diagnosing a vehicle concern, and fault P130A ?Hide Cylinder? is found in the Engine Control Module (ECM), be aware that Engine Control Module (ECM) fault P130A ?Hide Cylinder? indicates a cylinder shut down and does not require diagnosis. |
| TB481303 | 2023-06-26. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING. Poor Power Steering Assistance, DTCs 16344 014, 16353 014, 16355 014, 02614 014 Stored in Power Steering Control Module J500 |
