Service bulletins for the 2010 Volkswagen Passat

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

859 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

TT011401a2023-07-10. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Install a vacuum gauge on the dipstick tube and check crankcase vacuum at idle. Compare to a known good vehicle. If the vacuum reading is lower than the comparison vehicle, visually inspect for oil leaks between the engine and the transmission. Smoke test the crankcase by connecting the EVAP smoke machine to the dipstick tube and inspect for leaks at the rear main seal (this will limit pressure to 2 PSI). DO NOT apply shop air to the dipstick tube or the crankcase. If a rear main seal leak is identified, replace the seal. Once replaced, recheck crankcase vacuum at idle. If low, check for additional oil leaks and verify crankcase breather operation (repairing as necessary). Erase the faults and road test 10 miles to recheck operation.

TT45061222023-07-05. Service bulletin. WHEELS; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RING; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Use the following procedure to diagnose active wheel speed sensor complaints:
TT3214012023-07-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Incorrect torque converter or flywheel/flexplate installation can result in transmission damage. When installing an engine, flywheel or transmission, please follow the installation procedures outlined in ELSA. For the flywheel/flexplate, please be certain the correct shim is installed between it and the crankshaft (reference VWIQ120). When installing a torque converter, press the torque converter hub through the seal as far as the first stop. Turn the torque converter while pushing toward the transmission using light force, until the cut outs in the torque converter hub lock into the pump wheel plate. The torque converter slides in. The torque converter is installed correctly if it is easy to turn by hand and if it fits evenly in the transmission bell housing. Additionally, it should spin freely when the transmission bell housing bolts are torqued to the engine block, prior to installation of the flywheel to converter bolts (reference VWIQ121).
TT2713012023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. When diagnosing a generator charging concern, it is recommended to verify operation of the one way clutch located in the generator pulley (if equipped) before replacing generator assembly. To check the one way clutch, remove the belt from the generator pulley and use a trim removal tool to hold fan blades inside generator, as shown below. When attempting to turn pulley by hand with fan blades held, pulley should spin freely in only one direction. If pulley spins freely in both directions, the one way clutch has failed and should be replaced before continuing diagnosis.
TT2614022023-07-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Disconnect both O2 sensors (front and rear), start engine and let idle. Check MVB's 41/4 and 136/4 and verify have both changed from a 1 to a 0 (you may have to drive the car 4 miles to get them to reset to 0). Also a key cycle may be required for values to reset. This forces the ECM to re-learn the O2 sensor adaptation. Once MVB 41/4 and 136/4 read 0, re-connect the O2 sensors, road test and recheck for faults.
TT2613032023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Use of aftermarket air filters such as cotton bed steel mesh or cone style, can cause the MAF sensor to not read accurately, affecting vehicle performance and critical monitoring functions for the diesel particulate filter. This can also result in premature DPF failure. Only use factory air filters. The use of aftermarket air filters is not supported as the system was designed and calibrated to work with factory air filters.
TT2413032023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM). When diagnosing a vehicle concern, and fault P130A ?Hide Cylinder? is found in the Engine Control Module (ECM), be aware that Engine Control Module (ECM) fault P130A ?Hide Cylinder? indicates a cylinder shut down and does not require diagnosis.
TT24071032023-07-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM). When diagnosing fault code P2279-Leaking Air in Intake System, be sure to check the cam timing first.
TT2314012023-07-05. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. When replacing or adapting fuel injectors, if there is no Guided Functions Test Plan, utilize the following :UDS vehicles: Go to Guided Functions / Adapting Injector Quantity Adjustment correct values (IMA-IVA).
TT2310022023-07-05. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. When replacing fuel system components on the Common Rail TDI engine (including the fuel filter), the fuel system must be primed.
TT2113012023-07-05. Service bulletin. PARKING BRAKE. If mechanical damage is found to the turbocharger (e.g. damaged compression wheel, loose or broken shaft), it is not enough to just replace the turbocharger.
TT2110012023-07-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE. When diagnosis on the above engine leads to the testing of the N75, please refer to the picture below. The diagram shows which vacuum ports on the N75 valve should hold vacuum and which ones should not.

The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
