Service bulletins for the 2020 Mazda CX-9
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

If you encounter any type of electrical concern (e.g, dead battery, engine no start, DTC(s) stored...), interview the customer before proceeding with normal MGSS diagnosis by asking if any aftermarket devices have been installed. Aftermarket devices may be the cause of the electrical concern. Below are a few examples of unusual electrical concerns caused by aftermarket devices. |
| SA-036-23 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE; EQUIPMENT. Interior parts made of resin have antistatic coating to prevent dust from sticking on the surfaces, and depending on the conditions of use, the antistatic components may crystallize slightly, giving an appearance of white stains on the surface. To remove the stains, wipe the stained surface with a towel soaked with water mixed with a small portion of a neutral detergent. If the white stains reappear again, simply wipe them again in the same way. NOTE: The antistatic effect does not deteriorate with this procedure. |

| 07-003-22a | 2022-11-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. Some customers may complain about poor A/C performance due to low refrigerant. This may be caused by one of two things. Cause 1: [For 2016-2022 CX-9 with VINS lower than JM3TC******617612 (produced before April 7, 2022)] The condenser is corroded causing leakage of the A/C refrigerant. To eliminate this concern, the anti-corrosion performance of the condenser tube has been improved. Cause 2: [For all 2016-2022 CX-9] The low-temperature side outlet pipe leading to the evaporator of the air conditioner condenser has deteriorated because the structure around the outlet pipe on the low-temperature side of the air conditioner condenser allows mud and salt water to adhere easily. There is no mass production change, but an improved condenser was designed as needed. |

There have been warranty claims submitted for growling or bearing whine noise in differentials, transfer units and transmissions where the source of the noise was a wheel bearing. To reduce the chance of this occurring, please follow the steps outlined in the repair procedure. |
| 07-001/22 | 2022-04-05. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:SWITCHES/KNOBS/BUTTONS. Some vehicles may exhibit an unusual noise in the front A/C unit when the recirculate switch is operated. This is caused by a damaged gear in the air intake actuator. Dust and sand adhered to the grease at the air intake link may disturb the movement of the air intake actuator, resulting in the damaged gear. To eliminate this concern, grease application to the air intake link mechanism to the link pin has been reduced. |
| 04-001/22 | 2022-04-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT. Some vehicles may exhibit a click or squeak noise from the front brakes under the following conditions: 2016-2022 CX-9 2018-2022 CX-5 (Click noise): 1. When first moving forward or reverse from a stop OR 2. When first applying the brakes while moving forward at slow speeds. Cause: Due to deteriorated grease between the brake pads and the shim, the front brake pads move upward/downward along with the brake rotors during brake application. When the vehicle moves or the brakes are applied the next time, the front brake pads move to the other side, which causes a click noise. Mass-Production Change: None 2016-2018 CX-9 (Squeak noise): During light braking. Cause: Occurs when the front brake pads have been worn to certain levels. As the pads wear, the chamfer goes away and the grease between the pad and the shim deteriorates. Mass-Production Change: As of Apr. 27, 2018, the chamfer shape of the brake pad was improved to increase durability. |

| 09-012-21-3801b | 2022-01-06. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT. Door Lock Will Not Work Using Remote Transmitter and Engine Will Not Start: Some customers may experience all of following symptoms: 1. The door lock/unlock operation will not work using the remote transmitter button. 2. The door lock/unlock operation will not work using the door lock/release touch sensor. 3. The engine will not start using the ignition switch. 4. The transmitter operates by itself. 5. The key battery drains faster than usual. Symptoms 1-3: This may be caused when excess load is applied to the remote transmitter, deforming the electrical terminals and creating poor contact with the battery. To eliminate this concern, the structure in the remote transmitter has been modified to reduce the deformation of the electrical terminals. Symptom 4-5: This may be caused when excessive load is applied to the remote transmitter, creating a gap around the gasket where moisture enters and corrodes the circuit board which in turn drains the key battery faster than usual. To eliminate this concern, the thickness of the case wall on the gasket mounting surface has been increased and the bonding strength of the components has been improved to prevent deformation. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure. |
