Service bulletins for the 2019 Mazda CX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Aftermarket devices may be the cause of the electrical concern. Ask the customer if any aftermarket devices have been installed.
09-015-21-38052021-06-01. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES. Some CX-5 customers may find that the liftgate does not close when pressing the power liftgate (PLG) rear switch (A) located on the interior liftgate trim. This may be caused by PLG switch corrosion. Water from condensation may drip onto the switch connector and cause corrosion. To eliminate this concern, the PLG rear switch has been modified with a waterproof connector. Some Mazda3 customers may complain that the vehicle door locking system does not work when the door lock switch on the liftgate interior trim is pressed. DTC B11C4:23 (BCM - liftgate lock switch circuit malfunction) may be stored. This may be caused during a high pressure car washer. Water may enter through the rear center brand emblem base component and drip onto the switch connector causing corrosion. NOTE: The rusted connector may also cause a battery drain. To eliminate this concern, the rear center brand emblem base has been modified to prevent from water entry.

08-002-21-37882021-04-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some customers may experience the airbag warning light ON with DTC B00A0:09 stored in the SAS control module memory when the battery voltage is low. DTC B00A0:09 (Occupant classification sensor internal signal output unstable). This concern is caused by the low voltage detection time of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) being too short during cranking, which causes detection of the DTC unnecessarily. The concern occurs more often in colder weather when greater electric current is consumed to start the vehicle. To eliminate this concern, the OCS has been modified to avoid unnecessary DTC detection.

This program was announced to all dealers prior to the sale of the 2019 CX-5 Diesel. Unfortunately, some customers were charged by Mazda dealerships for their scheduled maintenance services. This CSP08 was created as a reminder for dealers to easily track the Zero Cost Maintenance Program. Affected VINs will now display CSP08 Zero Cost Maintenance Program when running a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry. This program provides: Four (4) factory scheduled services which are required during the first two 2 years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first, at zero cost to the customer for all 2019 CX-5 Signature SKYACTIV-D vehicles (excluding fleet rental vehicles). Allows the Mazda dealer to provide a premium service experience to our CX-5 Signature SKYACTIV-D owners, and builds a positive, lasting customer experience. Please refer to the Warranty Information as well as the Sales and Service Checklists that will be posted on MGSS by December 21, 2020. Owner Notification: Customers will be emailed in late January 2021 reminding them of their Zero Cost Maintenance Program. As a reminder, CSP programs are not subject to the Missed Recall Report but should always be reviewed to see if they apply to the customer concern if a vehicle is at a Mazda dealer.

Some vehicles may exhibit that the SBS/SCBS warning light (amber) turns ON right after the engine is started with DTC U0420:68 [FSC] stored in memory. • DTC U0420:68 [Forward sensing camera (FSC)]: Error signal received from electric power steering (EPS) control module. For Mazda6 and CX-5, the following error messages may appear in the instrument cluster. • Front camera sensor system malfunction • Forward Smart City Brake Support Malfunction • Driver attention alert system malfunction. This may be caused by the battery voltage falling and the EPS control module failing the initial learning for the steering center position while cranking. The FSC detects the error notified by the EPS control module. To correct this concern, the control software of the EPS control module has been modified while the repair procedure modifies the FSC for earlier repairs in the market.

The concern occurs more often in colder weather when greater electric current is consumed to start the vehicle. To eliminate this concern, the OCS has been modified to avoid unnecessary DTC detection. NOTE: • Even if the voltage is recovered after the engine is started, the airbag warning light stays ON during the drive cycle. • When the battery voltage becomes stable after the engine is started, the airbag system will operate normally.
