Service bulletins for the 2017 Mazda CX-5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

09-015-222022-05-05. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE; LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES. Some vehicles may exhibit corrosion on the liftgate lock striker. This may be caused by water penetrating from micro cracks existing on the lock striker's coating surface that reacts with zinc contained in the undercoating and produces the corrosion. To eliminate this concern, a modified undercoating has been established for the liftgate lock striker.
08-003-222022-05-05. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS. Some customers may experience the airbag warning light ON with DTC B00A0:09 stored in the SAS control module memory when the battery voltage is low. *DTC B00A0:09 (Occupant classification sensor internal signal output unstable) This concern is caused by the low voltage detection time of the occupant classification sensor (OCS) being too short during cranking, which causes detection of the DTC unnecessarily. The concern occurs more often in colder weather when greater electric current is consumed to start the vehicle. To eliminate this concern, the OCS has been modified to avoid unnecessary DTC detection. NOTE: *Even if the voltage is recovered after the engine is started, the airbag warning light stays ON during the drive cycle. *When the battery voltage becomes stable after the engine is started, the airbag system will operate normally.
04-002-222022-05-05. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Some vehicles may exhibit a squeak noise from the rear brakes while braking lightly. The squeak noise may occur more frequently when driving at slow speeds. The noise is caused by poor contact between the guide plate and the mounting support.

The concern will likely occur if the fuel tank is overfilled (more fuel is added after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off automatically) or filled up normally in high ambient temperatures and the fuel expands. No repair is needed. Explain to the customer not to continue filling after nozzle shut off. Refer customer to Owner's Manual Warning:

SA-009-222022-03-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT; POWER TRAIN. The new AWD rear differential DOES NOT come with a breather cap on the rear of the differential, therefore a new one will need to be ordered and installed when replacing the differential. 00-001-222022-03-04. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; STEERING. Mazda has developed factory recommended scheduled maintenance services that support all major vehicle systems. Mazda recommends dealers follow the scheduled maintenance tables as cited in the vehicle-specific workshop manual or owner's manual. Services performed outside of Mazda's factory scheduled maintenance are not recommended. These services are unnecessary and create unneeded expenses for your customers.

Some customers may report concerns with interior upholstery surface stains particularly on high contact areas (e.g.: steering wheel, door panels, shifter...etc.). This may be caused by skin oils or chemicals such as hand lotions. Use a clean towel damped in leather/vinyl cleaner or mild soap to clean the steering wheel. NOTE: Upholstery maintenance and care information can also be found in the Owner's Manual.
