Service bulletins for the 2017 Honda Pilot

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

181 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

A17-0352017-09-14. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Service bulletin - American Honda is extending the warranty on the 9-speed transmission warmers to 10 years from the original date of purchase with unlimited mileage. This warranty covers vehicles where the engine coolant and ATF mix because of an internal leak in the 9-speed transmission warmer.
A17-0112017-09-14. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Service bulletin - Some 9-speed transmission warmers were improperly manufactured and allow the engine coolant and ATF to mix. If the fluids mix, the engine and transmission may be permanently damaged and require replacement. These vehicles previously had the transmission replaced because the transmission warmers leaked. In rare cases, these vehicles may have also overheated but because the issue was under investigation, a standard repair procedure hadn't been developed. Further action is needed before the vehicle is completely repaired.
A17070C2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER. Service news article - Because of a transmission case casting flaw, the inside of the torque converter bracket hole in some 9-speed A/Ts is porous enough that ATF could leak from the hole. This flaw was found by the transmission factory during production.
A17050C2017-07-31. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY; POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. Service news article - Are you looking at what seems to be a rear differential axle seal or pinion seal leak? Something to keep in mind: The actual culprit may be something loose or damaged above it. A loose or damaged fluid pressure sensor will drip rear differential fluid onto the axle seal. A loose fluid pressure check port will drip that fluid onto the pinion seal.
A17-0152017-07-28. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER. Service bulletin - A judder from the torque converter lock-up clutch may be felt while driving between 20 and 60 mph. The problem is typically diagnosed as a bad torque converter. American Honda investigated the judder and found that the torque converter was not causing the judder and the transmission is not damaged by this judder.

A17010D2017-06-19. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:GEAR POSITION INDICATION (PRNDL); EQUIPMENT. "SERVICE NEWS ARTICLE - DO YOU HAVE A VEHICLE THAT HAS MULTIPLE INDICATORS ON OR WON’T GO INTO GEAR AND THE MIL IS ON WITH A/T DTC P26C3 (INTERNAL CONTROL MODULE TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR PERFORMANCE)? THERE MAY BE DEBRIS IN THE REVERSE OR NEUTRAL SHIFT BUTTONS OF THE SHIFT BY WIRE (SBW) SHIFTER ASSEMBLY THAT’S CAUSING THEM TO STICK. TYPICAL DEBRIS ARE PARTICLES IN THE REVERSE SHIFT BUTTON OR STICKY RESIDUE IN THE NEUTRAL SHIFT BUTTON FROM SOMETHING THAT SPILLED."
A16120B2017-05-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. "SERVICENEWS ARTICLE - IN A 9-SPEED A/T, THE ATF LEVEL IS CRITICAL. IF IT’S TOO HIGH, THE TRANSMISSION COULD SHIFT HARD. IF IT’S TOO LOW, THE TRANSMISSION COULD SLIP. THIS TRANSMISSION ALSO DOESN’T USE A DIPSTICK. TO CHECK THE ATF LEVEL, YOU NEED TO RUN A SPECIAL PROCEDURE. ALTHOUGH IT’S COVERED IN THE SERVICE INFORMATION, WE’RE INCLUDING IT IN THIS ARTICLE ALONG WITH SOME TIPS TO HELP ENSURE YOU’RE DOING THE JOB RIGHT."
