Service bulletins for the 2015 GMC Sierra

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

PIP4864N2017-08-15. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have "Exhaust Fluid Low", "Exhaust Fluid Empty - Refill Now", "Exhaust Fluid Range: XXX" or "Service Exhaust Fluid - See Owners Now" on the Driver Information Center. If the technician is working on 2010 and 2011 model years campaign 11001 has now been released. Other vehicles technician will need to check the Body Control Module and the scan tool to insure the latest calibration are installed in both. Then use the scan tool to check Reductant System Data in the Engine Control Module. Ensure that all three diesel exhaust fluid level sensors are active with the diesel exhaust fluid tank level showing 100%. If the tank level is below 100% add up to 2 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid. After adding the fluid, use a scan tool to reset the reductant fluid tank level. When the reductant level warning shows "none" the diesel exhaust fluid system reset and reprogram is complete.
PIP5007D2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician that vehicles with engine Regular Production Option Code LGH or LML may have an Exhaust Fluid Quality Poor message displayed on the Driver Information Center. Technician will need to complete the current Service Information diagnostic for any current Diagnostic Trouble Codes or symptoms found. If an Exhaust Fluid Quality Poor message is displayed with a specific Diagnostic Trouble Code, use that specific Service Information diagnostic, and repair the vehicle as necessary. If the dealer has found an Exhaust Fluid Quality Poor message with no Diagnostic Trouble Code, diagnose the condition using the current Service Information diagnosis for Diagnostic Trouble Code P20EE / P207F (P2BAD for 2012 and newer model years). After making repairs use the Service Information Document titled "Reductant Fluid Quality Test (With or without Diagnostic Trouble Codess)" to evaluate and clear the Exhaust Fluid Quality Poor Driver Information Center message.
PIP5198A2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have Service messages in the Driver Information Center, Malfunction Indicator Lamp on, Erratic fluctuating engine oil pressure gauge, engine crank no start, and engine may run rough or misfire. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Technician should use published Service Information diagnostics for the Diagnostic Trouble Codes that are set. If the diagnosis does not lead to a resolution check for chafing of the engine wiring harness that is routed near the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve. Technician should repair any damaged wiring and fully seat the wire retaining harness. Also the technician should bend the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve gasket over to prevent a re-occurrence.
PIP3119M2017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a Service Engine Soon Malfunction Indicator Lamp on at low mileage. Technician may find Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0420 and or P0430 stored. Technician should be advised that the catalytic converter efficiency Diagnostic Trouble Codes P0420 and P0430 are disabled for the first hour of engine run time to allow break-in of the catalytic converter. Technician will need to use a Tech2 to check the verify engine run time on the Engine Hour Meter in the Instrument Panel Cluster Data Display/Data 1 List in the scan tool match. If the engine run time is less than one hour, the battery may have been disconnected, or another vehicle power loss event may have occurred, during vehicle manufacturing. Technician will need to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and perform a drive cycle. If the catalytic converter was replaced and the Diagnostic Trouble Codes set it may be a result of the engine run time restrictions no longer being in place since the vehicle is no longer new. Technician will need to clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes and perform a drive cycle.
PIP51892017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicle that may have black smoke on a cold start. A dual-pulse injection strategy is utilized during engine cold start to reduce the time required to bring the catalytic converter up to operating temperature. This split injection strategy lasts for about 60 seconds on cold start. This process may cause the customer to see increased black smoke during cold start and should be considered normal.
16-NA-2442017-08-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. This informational bulletin provides information on Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and the proper use of the DEF system.

PIP53702017-03-21. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN THAT SOME VEHICLE MAY HAVE AN “EXHAUST FLUID QUALITY POOR” ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER OR A DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID WARNING LAMP ON OR OTHER EXHAUST FLUID QUALITY RELATED CONCERNS. TECHNICIAN WILL INSPECT THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID FOR CONTAMINATION. TECHNICIAN SHOULD USE SERVICE INFORMATION FOR CONTAMINANTS IN DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID DIAGNOSIS AND USE SPECIAL TOOL J26568 OR EN50422 DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID REFRACTOMETER FOR FLUID TESTING.
PIP5189A2017-03-20.
