Service bulletins for the 2015 Ford Transit

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty and 2016-2019 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018-2019 F-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.
SSM 476412019-01-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE. Some 2011-2019 F-Super Duty, 2015-2019 Transit, 2016-2019 F-650/F-750 and 2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L, 3.2L or 3.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P207F, P20EE, P229F, P2201 and/or P24AE. This may be a result of using aftermarket cleaning liquids or tools for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or intake. Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter (PM) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the aftertreatment system. Use of these cleaning tools may void the emissions warranty of the hot end aftertreatment exhaust system and the attached emissions sensors.
tsb18-22232018-09-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE). Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L diesel engine may exhibit "Drive To Clean" maintenance messages and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with DTC P2459, P2463, and/or P246C. Vehicles may also exhibit frequent automatic exhaust regeneration attempts. This may be due to vehicles being used in a stationary or off-highway, low speed applications. If automatic regeneration attempts are unsuccessful, these symptoms may be a result of soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter (DPF). These vehicles may benefit from operator commanded regeneration (OCR) capability so complete regeneration cycles may be performed in a stationary setting. Information only, follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
tsb18-21892018-09-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; EQUIPMENT; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE). Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SSM 470392018-06-11. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2017 F-Super Duty, 2016-2017 F650-750 equipped with 6.7L diesel engines and 2015-2017 Transit equipped with 3.2L diesel engines may exhibit a MIL on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C stored in powertrain control module(PCM). This may be due to incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Prior to performing Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test RJ, ensure DEF concentration is checked using Central Tools Refractometer tool number CEN3R201 and if DEF contamination is suspected use the Rotunda Hydrocarbon Test Kit tool number 328-480508.
SSM 470202018-06-11. Service bulletin. ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV). Some 2015-2018 Transit vehicles equipped with a 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi may exhibit an engine oil leak from the rear crankshaft seal. The Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01 has been updated to include the correct location to apply sealant to the rear crankshaft seal. When repairing a rear crankshaft oil leak condition, a 3 mm (0.120 in) bead of Motorcraftù Silicone Gasket and Sealant TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4) or equivalent must be applied to the joints where the ladder frame meets the engine block. Failure to follow the updated procedure in WSM, Section 303-01 may result in a repeat oil leak at the rear of the engine.
SSM 471102018-05-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty/2016-2018 F650-750 with 6.7L diesel engines and 2015-2018 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines may exhibit a MIL on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Prior to performing Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test RJ, confirm DEF concentration using IDS to monitor REDUCT_CONC_MES. This PID reading may fluctuate between 31% and 34% indicating DEF concentration is correct. A concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. This reading may also be checked using Central Tools Refractometer (CEN3R201) which should indicate a similar percentage as the PID. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts.
SSM 460852017-08-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OTHER FUEL TYPES:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:HOSES/LINES/PIPING/FITTINGS; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:RADIATOR ASSEMBLY; ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:BELTS AND ASSOCIATED PULLEYS; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM:FAN. The Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual has been revised for diagnosing electronic throttle bodies (ETBs). The ETC_ACT and ETC_DSD PIDs should not used to diagnose possible ETB concerns. The IDS has a limited refresh rate when reading these PIDs and cannot display quickly enough to validate a concern. The PCM automatically monitors these inputs more accurately and will set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) when appropriate. Using these PIDs for diagnostics will lead to inaccurate results and improper ETB replacements. If a concern is intermittent and no DTCs are present, refer to historical DTCs and the PC/ED, Section 3 No DTCs Present Index chart for further information.
SSM 461222017-02-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE). SOME 2015-2017 TRANSIT VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 3.2L PUMA DIESEL ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT AN OVERHEAT CONDITION DUE TO COOLANT LOSS WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL COOLANT LEAKS. THIS MAY BE DUE TO AN INTERNALLY LEAKING EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR) COOLER. TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, INSTALL REVISED EGR COOLER CK4Z-9U433-B. REFER TO WORKSHOP MANUAL (WSM), SECTION 303-08. USE CAUSAL PART 9U433 AND APPLICABLE LABOR OPERATIONS FROM SECTION 09 OF THE SERVICE LABOR TIME STANDARDS (SLTS) MANUAL.
