SSM 523352024-03-20. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. For 2015-2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines and customer concern of an engine oil leak, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.
SSM 520982023-12-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may require a long block replacement of the engine for various reasons. The replacement long block may be equipped with an updated upper oil pan. If the oil filter adapter from the original engine does not mate with the new upper oil pan, service parts PC3Z-6881-A (oil filter adapter), W503277-S439 (package of 6 bolts, 4 bolts required), W718564-S450 (stud), W520101-S442 (nut), and PC3Z-14A206-A (starter cable retaining bracket) will be needed to complete the repair.
SSM 516912023-06-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; POWER TRAIN. 2011-2023 F-Super Duty and 2016-2024 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages.
SSM 509742022-08-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL; EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Some 2020-2022 Escape/Corsair/F-53 Motorhome/F-59 Commercial Stripped Chassis, 2021-2023 F-650/F-750/E-Series, and 2021-2022 Bronco Sport vehicles may exhibit a communication fault with emissions inspection equipment. This may be due to the software in the gateway module (GWM). To correct this condition, reprogram the GWM to latest software level using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Use causal part 14F642 and applicable labor times from Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
SSM 508302022-06-17. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY. Some 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 7.3L engine and built on or before 11-May-2022 may exhibit a ticking/clicking/tapping noise at idle that is loudest at the front of the engine where the front timing cover meets the oil pan. This may be due to a cracked oil pump drive gear. If the noise originates from the lower front of the engine, remove the accessory drive belt and retest. If the noise is still present, remove the oil pan and rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees to inspect for cracking. If cracked, replace the oil pump drive gear (LC3Z-6306-A).
SSM 506362022-03-29. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE:SOFTWARE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT. 2011-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2023 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition.
SSM 503232021-12-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2017-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2022 F-650/F-750 with 6.7L diesel engines, 2015-2019 Transit with 3.2L diesel engines and 2018-2021 F-150 with 3.0L diesel engines may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P206C in the powertrain control module (PCM). Review of repair data supports that P206C is often the result of incorrect diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) concentration. Per Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Pinpoint Test (PPT) RJ, a DEF concentration reading below 28% will set P206C and cause vehicle derate. If low concentration is suspected, drain fluid and replace with known good DEF before replacing any parts. Low concentration of DEF is not a warrantable condition.
TSB 20-23802020-11-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM. Some 2020 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with the 6.2L or 7.3L engine built on or before 05-Jun-2020 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0132, P0135, P0138, P0141, P0152, P0155, P0158 and/or P0161 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to water intrusion into heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) connectors C141, C142, C1571 and/or C1572 on the transmission harness where it connects to the engine exhaust sensors. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the transmission harness and the affected heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) and/or the catalyst monitor sensor.
SSM 491852020-10-06. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020 F-Super Duty and 2021 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine built on 01-Mar-2020 and through 31-Aug-2020 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator light (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0088. This may be due to the pressure control valve in the left fuel rail. To correct the condition, replace the left fuel rail along with the pressure control valve (PCV). For F-250 through F-550 vehicles refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04B. For F-650/F-750 vehicles refer to WSM, Section 303-04A. For claiming use causal part 9D280 and applicable labor operations in Section 09 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.
TSB 20-23362020-10-02. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. TSB 20-22982020-10-01. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Some 2020 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit a condition where the engine will not turn off and/or have various electrical symptoms including a dead battery, horn stays on and no crank/no start. This may be a result of water/moisture intrusion into the battery junction box (BJB). The BJB is located under the hood of the vehicle. This water/moisture intrusion may be related to the BJB cover not installed completely or broken cover tabs/locking fingers allowing water/moisture into the BJB. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to inspect for water/moisture intrusion into the BJB and replace the BJB if water/moisture intrusion is found.
