During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this high/elevated idle to reduce buildup of unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR system. The powertrain control module (PCM) estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 revolutions per minute (rpms) for ambient temperatures near 26C (80F) and may increase to as high as 1200 rpms at -40 C (-40F). These elevated idle periods can last from 20-40 minutes, depending on ambient temperatures. During power take off (PTO) use and already using idle set point control, the elevated speed is disabled. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to the Exhaust Filter warning messages.

SSM 490652020-09-04. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL. Some 2011-2020 F-Super Duty, 2015-2019 Transit, 2016-2021 F-650/F-750 and 2018-2020 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L, 3.2L or 3.0L engine may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P207F, P20EE, P229F, P2201 and/or P24AE. This may be a result of using aftermarket cleaning liquids or tools for the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or intake. Ford does not recommend the cleaning of diesel intakes or EGR coolers using any aftermarket tool that injects a cleaning foam or liquid substance into the EGR cooler or intake. Using these types of fluids can result in sodium poisoning of the NOx and particulate matter (PM) sensors resulting in degraded operation and permanent damage to the after treatment system. Use of these cleaning tools may void the emissions warranty of the hot end after treatment exhaust system and the attached emissions sensors.
SSM 484942020-02-04. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. Some 2005-2020 F-Super Duty 4x4 vehicles operated in extreme dust, mud or tar sand conditions may exhibit accelerated 4x4 vacuum hub seal and or wheel bearing wear as a result of harsh operating conditions. The knuckle seal shield kit GC3Z-54024A38-A includes an installation instruction sheet
SSM 481392019-09-09. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some remanufactured 6.7L diesel engines recently installed in 2011-2014 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit a lack of power with engine oil temperature (EOT) exceeding 125Å’C (257Å’F) under loads. This may also be accompanied by REDUCED ENGINE POWER being displayed in the message center and the coolant temperature gauge indicating H. This symptom may be due to a missing metering cup plug in the upper oil pan causing reduced oil flow through the oil cooler. Remanufactured engines built on 1-Mar-2019 and through 13-May-2019 may be affected. If a vehicle exhibits this concern, use the Report a Vehicle Concern link at the bottom of the OASIS tab and submit a report. Include the engine serial number and engine build date in the report. The dealership may be contacted for further details and possible repair direction.
SSM 481302019-09-06. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR; VISIBILITY. Some 2010-2020 vehicles may exhibit distorted glass with a subtle orange peel pattern or streaking etched into the surface. This is caused by hydrofluoric acid which is used in some car wash solutions as a cleaning agent. Hydrofluoric acid can attack the glass and cause visual distortion and/or discoloration on the outer surface which cannot be removed by further cleaning. If this type of distortion is found, inspect the area of the glass that is covered by the cowl and/or molding. The portion of glass that is covered by the cowl or molding will not be affected by the acid. Hydrofluoric acid damage is not a defect in material or workmanship and is not a warrantable condition.
SSM 481232019-09-06. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. For Ford and Lincoln vehicles that require positive or negative battery terminal replacement, it is not necessary to replace the complete battery cable harness (14300 and 14301) for this concern. Positive battery cable clamp BT4Z-14450-AA and negative battery cable clamp BT4Z-14450-BA are available for this type of repair. Do not cut or shorten the battery cable, instead carefully remove the affected battery cable clamp and clean the cable end as necessary to preserve wire length. Some rework may be necessary for some vehicle environments. Bend the new positive battery cable clamp as needed and crimp it to the existing battery cable. Make sure to use heat shrink tubing over the battery cable to battery cable clamp connection. Obtain the heat shrink tube locally.
SSM 480442019-07-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2019 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may come in for scheduled maintenance on the engine mounted fuel filter. When reconnecting a fuel line quick connect fitting back onto the engine mounted fuel filter housing, push the connector all the way onto the fuel filter connection port. For some vehicles, you may need to depress a retainer clip to lock the quick connect port into place. Once the fitting is latched fully onto the connection port, pull straight backward on the fuel line to verify it is fully latched onto the connection port. Do not bend the fuel line connection when pulling to verify it is connected. Refer to Workshop Manual sections 310-00 for details on quick connect fittings.
SSM 479762019-06-07. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission it is imperative that the converter pilot hub be greased with Motorcraft Multi-Purpose Grease Spray XL-5-A even if grease was not applied from the factory. Also verify that the engine/transmission alignment dowel pins are present as well as the engine crankshaft dowel pin, if equipped, when installing the transmission. Failure to adequately lubricate the converter hub greatly increases the likelihood of the flexplate cracking in the future. Missing dowels may cause a misalignment issue also resulting in a premature failure. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.
SSM 479792019-06-06. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION:FRONT:WHEEL BEARING; SUSPENSION. Some 2005-2019 F-Super Duty 4x4 vehicles operated in extreme dust, mud or tar sand conditions may exhibit accelerated 4x4 vacuum hub seal and or wheel bearing wear as a result of harsh operating conditions. A knuckle seal shield kit is now available for customer purchase. The kit is designed for severe duty and is non warrantable. The knuckle seal shield kit GC3Z-54024A38-A includes an installation instruction sheet
TSB19-21432019-06-05. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some 2011-2016 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit a lack of power and/or illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0299 in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to the charge air cooler (CAC) outlet tube assembly becoming disconnected at the throttle body or a separation at the CAC tube crimp clamp. To resolve this concern, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the CAC outlet tube assembly.Follow the service procedure steps to correct the condition.
SSM 479482019-05-07. Service bulletin. ENGINE.
