Service bulletins for the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

PIP5248D2018-05-21. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps need to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have stalling shudder and/or hard shifting into 1st gear or reverse vibration on launch (with excessive crankshaft end play). Technician will test to determine if the crank shaft end play is within specification 0.0015–0.0086 inch. If end play is found to be out of specification, remove engine and inspect for possible crankshaft thrust bearing and/or crankshaft for wear. Inspect thrust bearing for wear on one side and crankshaft on that “mating” surface. If the thrust bearing has three vertical channels worn off replace connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust bearing and crankshaft. If working on a Corvette the oil tank with lines and oil cooler are both required to be replaced if equipped.

Certain vehicles may have a condition in which the left hand front transmission oil cooler (TOC) line can move out of its design position and come into contact with either an underbody stud or the transmission mount. This may result in a potential rub through of the TOC line and transmission fluid may come in contact with a hot surface resulting in hot surface ignition. Dealers are to inspect and replace the transmission oil cooler line as required, and cut off the body stud on the driver side of the vehicle near the transmission support.
PIP5168F2018-02-21. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT; BACK OVER PREVENTION; FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on the steps to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have a no crank concern. Technician will need to check the valve train for movement when the engine is cranked. If the valve train is not moving while the crankshaft is moving the front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the valve train is rotating during inspection, disconnect the Camshaft Position sensor and check if the engine will start. If the engine starts front cover will need to be removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly. If the engine does not start with the Camshaft Position sensor disconnected the follow published “Engine Cranks But Does Not Run” diagnosis in Service Information. Also perform an Engine Compression Test and Cylinder Leakage Test in Service Information documents all results. If the Service Information procedures above isolate an engine mechanical concern then removed to inspect for a sheared cam sprocket locator pin. If the cam sprocket locator pin has sheared, replace the engine assembly.

This Preliminary information communicates that a vibration concern on deceleration can be felt in the floor, seat, console and steering wheel between speeds of 70-60 MPH in 6th gear has been identified by G.M. If the clutch pedal is depressed and the concern is gone the likely cause is related to the transmission main shaft butIf the clutch is depressed and the concern remains the same or in 5th gear during the same speed range please continue with published vibration diagnosis in service information database. If a pico scope is used it presents at about 46 Hz. Technician isto verify concern, ensuring trans was built before identified serial number and replace transmission.
