| G-163817 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER. 13120 - Service Update. The torque converter clutch solenoid in the TECHM can stick due to debris in the transmission. When the vehicle is at the end of a coast-down, as the vehicle is coming to a stop, a stuck solenoid will fail to release the torque converter clutch. This keeps the engine directly connected to the driven wheels. As the vehicle stops, the engine speed will be pulled down below normal idle speed and the engine may stall. The vehicle can be immediately restarted and driven. Dealers are to reprogram the transmission control module with a revised calibration to correct this condition. |

| G-163768 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER. 13077A - Service Update (revised warranty information). The torque converter housing may have a casting defect on the sealing flange that could prevent the molded rubber carrier gasket from fully seating on the flange. If the gasket is not fully seated, over time, a transmission fluid leak could develop. Dealers are to inspect the date and mold code on the transmission housing. If specific date and mold codes are found, the transmissions will require replacement. |

| PIP5146 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that may have a bind or shudder on turns during tight parking lot maneuvers. If technician is working on a 2012 Lacrosse the Electronic Brake Control Module should be updated with the latest calibrations in Service Programming System. If the technician isolates the condition to be coming from the Rear Drive Module, then check the fluid level in the Rear Drive Module per Service Information. If fluid levels are incorrect then diagnose and repair as needed, review latest version of PI0703 if the differential clutch is overfull. If no fluid concerns are found change the differential clutch oil filter and oil. Technician should insure all oil and debris is removed from the differential. |
| PIP4112M | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician of a complaint of a sag or hesitation when accelerating. The concern is present when coasting at low speeds of less than 15 miles per hour and then aggressively applying the throttle, or after making a hard stop followed by an aggressive throttle. This is considered normal operation of the vehicle the throttle is delayed and opened slowly up to .7 seconds to help minimize driveline lash and clunking or will have approximately .5 seconds of zero torque to allow the transmission to shift to first gear. |
| PIP4112L | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. | PIT5191 | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL; POWER TRAIN. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that the battery went dead or a "Shift to Park" message in the instrument cluster's Driver Information Center when shutting down the vehicle. Technician will need to inspect the shifter boot for sign of pinching. If there are signs of pinching replace the shifter boot with the part number in the parts catalog. |
| PIP3720D | 2017-08-15. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician with the axel setup information from American Axle Manufacturing. Technician should be advised that the maximum pinion shim to be used or stacked behind the pinion is 0.050?, and the minimum pinion shim is 0.020? for an 8.6 axle. The range for available pinion depth shims for the 10.5? axle is 0.006? to 0.024?. When setting the backlash it should be set between 0.003? to 0.005? on a new ring and pinion for any American Axle Manufacturing application. The ring and pinion can be reused or adjusted if the mileage is less than 500 miles, if not used for towing. Technician should be advised that a ?roller coaster? or ?hourglass? pattern on the bearings may be normal up to 10,000 miles and possibly longer. With a mis-machined housing you may get a heel pattern on both sides of the gear teeth at build up can generally be corrected with backlash adjustments. When setting up an 8.6? axle with a 5 cut gear set is to use a 0.035? pinion shim and set backlash to 0.004?. When using the newer 2 cut gear set also use a 0.035? pinion shim and still set backlash to 0.004?. To set the gear pattern use backlash to adjust the pattern heel to toe. Use the pinion shim to adjust the height of the pattern. The proper drive pinion bearing pre-load is from 15 - 30 inch pounds with new bearings. The total torque to turn after the differential case is installed should increase 5 - 10 inch pounds at the pinion. A new pinion nut must be used whenever the old one is removed. The axle shaft end play specification is 0.012? per side and the radial specification is 0.002? - 0.003?. Technician should be advised that synthetic lube can be used in all new American Axle Manufacturing axle assemblies. The new pinion seal for the 8.6? axle assembly is a two piece design. |
