Service bulletins for the 2015 BMW X5

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

412 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

B1301162018-12-10. Service bulletin. FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE); ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL. The DDE software application for exhaust gas recirculation control (EGR) does not favorably match the diesel fuel grades available in many parts of the US market. The high pressure EGR cooler could become filled with soot particulate to the point that exhaust gas flow and cooling efficiency are significantly reduced. This could result in the Service Engine Soon light coming on with EGR control / Air mass faults being stored in the DDE.
B1201162018-12-10. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Under certain engine operating conditions the measured air mass between the cylinder banks 1-4 and 5-8 is miscalculated by the DME's. This could result in incorrect engine torque and mismatched ignition parameters with the possibility of internal engine damage.
B1310152018-12-10. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL. ?Emissions Recall Campaign 16E-A03. Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.
B1111172018-12-03. Service bulletin. ENGINE. ?ENGINE LEAK DIAGNOSIS ON TURBOCHARGED V8 ENGINES. When diagnosing an engine oil leak or a coolant leak on turbocharged V8 engines it is necessary to use a borescope to identify if the source of the leak is from under the turbochargers. Engine oil or coolant leaking from the bell housing area or the front timing chain cover area may be caused by the turbocharger itself, a turbocharger oil/coolant feed line or turbocharger oil/coolant return line. Do not remove the transmission and do not dissemble the engine before performing this inspection. If necessary, use engine oil leakage detection dye.
B1101132018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE. N63 AND N63T ENGINE: ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION, ENGINE OIL TOP-UPS AND REFILL CAPACITY. Customers with one of the vehicles above may complain that the engine's oil consumption is "too high," resulting in engine oil top-ups and workshop visits to address the issue before the vehicle displays an engine oil service as being "due." When the vehicle's engine oil drops to the minimum level, a message will display in the vehicle advising the driver to "add 1 quart of engine oil." After topping up and continued operation, the "add engine oil" message may display again before an engine oil service is required and performed. CAUSE Engines that are fitted with a turbocharger, as part of their normal operation, will consume engine oil at a higher rate than a naturally aspirated engine (non-turbocharged engine). In this case, a "turbocharged" engine could require topping up of the engine oil more frequently.
B6403182018-11-26. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER. DELIVERY STOP: REFRIGERANT AIR CONDITIONING. An incorrect refrigerant was used to fill the refrigerant circuit in the affected vehicles after assembly. 0104142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. External Engine Oil Leaks and Repairs. During the vehicle's operational life, normal engine oil seepage or sweating, in addition to accumulated road dust, dirt and grime in the engine compartment can cause the appearance of a more severe oil leak. This is further exaggerated by residual oil that remains on the engine assembly after maintenance services are performed, e.g., oil filter changes, "engine oil top-offs," etc. If this visual appearance of accumulated oil on the engine assembly as an "active leak" is misinterpreted, unnecessary gasket repairs/replacements will result. Specifically, our analysis of the claim-related data for vehicles equipped with the engines noted in this bulletin is showing an above-average number of engine gasket repair/replacement claim submissions. The purpose of this bulletin is to provide your workshop with information and a procedure that will help in identifying engine oils leaks that do and do not require a repair.
6123142018-11-13. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE; ENGINE. "The Start/Stop Button Must Be Pressed Several Times to Stop Engine. To turn the engine off when it is running, the start/stop button must be pressed several times. This error does not affect starting of the engine. Body Domain Controller (BDC) application software error BDC fault ""8040A9 - Start-stop button SST: Incorrect operation (pushed at an angle)"" is stored."
1303142018-11-13. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE. Service Engine Soon Lamp (MIL) On with NOx Sensor Faults Stored.
