Service bulletins for the 2021 BMW X4

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

Bulletins, newest first
B3601212024-02-01. Service bulletin. STEERING. At low outside temperatures (below 40 degrees F) and slow driving speeds (i.e. when parking, maneuvering)with a large steering angle, the front end can be slightly axially misaligned. This can be felt (jerking)/ heard via an acoustic acknowledgement (clunk) as seen at the 11 second mark of the video. See attached video V36 01 21.
B3102232023-09-25. Service bulletin. STEERING; SUSPENSION. ?Disturbing noises (thump/pop) when reversing slowly near the steering wheel limit position; for example, when leaving a parking space.
SIB3102232023-05-15. Service bulletin. STEERING; WHEELS; STEERING:AUTOMATED/ADAPTIVE STEERING. Disturbing noises (thump/pop) when reversing slowly near the steering wheel limit position; for example, when leaving a parking space.
B5117222022-12-12. Service bulletin. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE; VISIBILITY; LANE DEPARTURE; STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Due to the semiconductor supply, the Local Interconnect Network module in either of the exterior mirrors was switched to another controller. That one provides an imprecise voltage measurement, which the main controller interprets as a fault. For the driving cycle, the customer may lose the display in either mirror and the Lane Change Warning function and, if installed, other functions such as- Side collision warning; Lane Change Assistant; Steering and Lane Control Assistant; Emergency Lane Assistant Hands Off 60 Assistant.
B6615192022-05-16. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; LANE DEPARTURE; STEERING. The steering intervention for Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is too strong (severe), which can create an uncomfortable feeling for the driver. Background: Steering intervention helps keep the vehicle in the lane if the system detects that a lane marking has been crossed. The steering intervention can be noticed on the steering wheel and can be manually overridden at any time.
B6107212021-11-08. Service bulletin. STEERING. Groaning, scraping, or squeaking noise coming from the steering wheel area in the interior of the vehicle, when turning the steering wheel.
B3404142021-05-24. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC; STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR. Diagnosis of Compound Brake System Complaints in M Vehicles: 1. Visible cracks are caused by high thermal stresses during rapid heating and cooling of the brake discs. Braking from high speed with cold brake components (less than 212 degrees F) increases the likelihood of cracks to form.
B6621192021-02-22. Service bulletin. STEERING; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE; LANE DEPARTURE. LDW (LANE DEPARTURE WARNING) STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION NOT STRONG: Lane Departure Warning (LDW) steering wheel vibration is perceived as being not strong enough, even with the strongest setting selected via the iDrive menu. Software in the vibration actuator and /or steering wheel component.
B3205202020-11-23. Service bulletin. STEERING. INCREASED STEERING EFFORT WITH CHECK CONTROL MESSAGE (CCM): During multiple vehicle steering maneuvering or extended time at steering end stops (i.e. "full lock"), the check control message (CCM) "Increased steering effort, drive moderately" (CCM ID 997) may appear.

INCREASED STEERING EFFORT WITH CHECK CONTROL MESSAGE (CCM): During multiple vehicle steering maneuvering or extended time at steering end stops (i.e. "full lock"), the check control message (CCM) "Increased steering effort, drive moderately" (CCM ID 997) may appear.
