Service bulletins for the 2018 BMW M5
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| B341019 | 2021-11-08. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. Inform the customer during a consultation that the M Compound (standard equipment) and M Carbon Ceramic (optional) brakes are high-performance brake systems which are designed for sporty, dynamic driving styles. As a side effect of the highest possible brake performance, customers are likely to hear noises due to the extremely resilient materials. In the same conversation, inform the customer that his/her braking performance can help ensure that the noises do not occur or disappear quickly. |

| B360121 | 2021-05-24. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT; SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC. Diagnosis of Compound Brake System Complaints in M Vehicles: 1. Visible cracks are caused by high thermal stresses during rapid heating and cooling of the brake discs. Braking from high speed with cold brake components (less than 212 degrees F) increases the likelihood of cracks to form. |
| B340414 | 2021-05-24. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:DISC; STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR. |
| B510221 | 2021-04-26. Service bulletin. PARKING BRAKE. AIR DUCT COVER LOOSE OR MISSING: The air duct cover (fender mounted) may be loose or missing. Prolonged high-speed driving can cause movements of the fender, causing the air duct to become loose. |
| B513016 | 2020-04-20. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; PARKING BRAKE. TAILGATE UNINTENTIONALLY OPENS: This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 4) replaces SI B51 30 16 dated March 2018. Trunk/tailgate may open when vehicle is locked Trunk/tailgate may open while the vehicle is in motion usually after stopping such as a traffic light etc. Vehicle key trunk/tailgate button may be accidentally pressed thus opening the tailgate. |
| B621019 | 2020-01-21. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. INCORRECT CONDITION BASED SERVICE DATA FOR BRAKE FLUID SERVICE. "Brake fluid service due since 12/2001" is displayed in the instrument cluster although the vehicle is only a maximum of 1 year old. Software error in the KOMBI (Instrument Cluster). |
| B341019 | 2020-01-21. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR CUSTOMER DISCUSSIONS REGARDING MOTORSPORT VEHICLE BRAKES: Note for customer deleted: If the noise does not disappear despite the attempts to regenerate the brake a repair is required. |

| B340714 | 2019-01-07. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. "Carbon Ceramic Brake Noise. INFORMATION ""M"" vehicles are designed for high-performance, spirited driving. To accommodate this type of driving profile, a braking system which exceeds the standards for handling heavy brake forces, extreme temperatures, and excellent stopping power at high speeds is required. ""M"" vehicles can be ordered with the optional ultra high-performance braking system, featuring perforated carbon ceramic brake discs designed for circumstances similar to those encountered on racetracks. The carbon ceramic brakes were designed to improve braking efficiency, and dramatically increase braking performance along with a significant reduction in weight. When developing the carbon ceramic brake system, the main focus was on braking performance for the sporty-minded driver, while accepting the comfort limitations of functional noises at slower speeds and when coming to a stop. Please inform the customer that the carbon ceramic brake system's functional noises (squealing/honking), are a known characteristic for this type of material, and are only a small trade-off for the improved braking performance. These functional noises have no effect on the performance, operational reliability and durability of the brakes. Part replacement will not provide a remedy for the noise; this is a known characteristic of the high-performance brake system. More information on the performance and operation of these brakes can be found in the Owner's Manual under ""M carbon ceramic brake."" WARRANTY INFORMATION Not applicable." |
| B340618 | 2018-12-03. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; SERVICE BRAKES. "?ASSISTANCE SYSTEM FAILURE FAULT CODES 03058E/030557 IN DSC CONTROL UNIT. Check Control Message (CCM): ""Assistance system failure"" is displayed. One or both of the following fault codes may appear in the Dynamic Stability Control (DSM) control unit: * 03058E - Engine control unit operating fluid - acceleration sensors adaptive data sensor tolerance at maximum value * 030557 - Engine control unit operating fluid - steering angle driver adaptive data for steering angle tolerance at maximum value Software error in the DSC control unit.
