Service bulletins for the 2012 Audi S4
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| A691326 2023323- | 2017-10-31. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 69 number 12-25 dated April 25, 2012. After the airbag control module (J234) has been replaced, the control unit cannot be coded via SVM spec/actual. An SVM code is required to code and parameterize the new service replacement airbag control module. Each model?s SVM code is provided in a parts bulletin (GP bulletin), which should have been referenced through ETKA when the module was replaced. The control module cannot be coded until the SVM code has been executed. |

| A271319 2029010- | 2017-10-31. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 27 number 12-13 dated March 22, 2012. The customer may report a discharged battery when trying to start the vehicle. The condition results in a no start. |
| A911598 2018187- | 2017-10-27. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 14-50 dated July 10, 2014. Customer may report that cracking, grinding, rattling, humming, whining, or similar interference is coming from one or more speakers. Parts of the speakers (such as the brackets, cables, or covers) or parts of the interior fittings (such as door covers, rear shelf, facings, or covers) can vibrate at certain frequencies, causing noises. The radio tuner or other control modules may be affected by electromagnetic interference from aftermarket electronic devices. |

| A971548 2013504- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 97 number 10-15 dated October 20, 2010. Sporadic fault memory entries are stored in various control modules. Contacts may be widened (over 0.63 mm) if incorrect pins or incorrect methods for current flow tests are used. Either action may cause intermittent electrical connections, which can cause sporadic DTCs to be stored in various control modules. |
| A911583 2030465- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM(GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM); ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 13-07 dated September 12, 2013. Group "A" complaints: Valid for vehicles with MMI software below version 566. Group "B" complaints: Valid for vehicles with MMI software at or above version 566 but below 715. Group "C" complaints: Valid for vehicles with MMI software at or above version 715 but not including 814. This bulletin only applies to vehicles with MMI3G+ Navigation (PR Number "7T6") and to vehicles with MMI3G+ Navigation, but without Audi Connect (PR Number "7T6" with additional PR code of "PND"). Continual improvements to MMI software provides solutions to issues experienced in the field. |
| A011519 2040403- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:STARTER ASSEMBLY:SOLENOID; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. The MIL is on. DTCs P2440(00) and/or P2442(00) are stored in the ECM. One of the combi valves is defective or the vacuum solenoid is defective. |
| A911579 2038824- | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 14-69 dated November 4, 2014. The following message appears on the MMI display: "Device or cable type not supported". The AMI cable being used is a genuine Audi-branded cable with an Audi part number (see Required Parts and Tools for a list of valid part numbers). The "Device or cable type not supported" message may be displayed when an incorrect AMI cable type is connected to the MMI system. Only cables with an Audi part number (i.e., 4F0.XXX.XXX) are supported by the MMI system. Volkswagen-branded cables look similar, but are not guaranteed to work with Audi MMI systems. The label on the end of an Audi-branded cable has an Audi logo and Audi part number. Audi-branded cables have unique firmware inside the hardware that can determine which MMI system and iOS device are connected to the cable. Volkswagen cables do not have this firmware. The firmware is required to allow the system to function normally due to the different technology available in the different MMI systems and in the different iPhones and iPod Touch devices. In addition, the AMI system was designed to play the music stored locally on the connected device only. Music streaming (from Spotify or Pandora, for example) is not supported, and music stored in the cloud (on Google Play, Amazon Prime, or iTunes Match/iCloud, for example) may drop out, pause, and skip when played. |

Gearbox warning light on (DTCs P179E00, P179F00, P0700, P060A). The driver information system displays the message "gearbox malfunction: you can continue driving". There are two scenarios present. Scenario 1 is that entries are logged individually or in combination, with P179E logged first (using DTC environmental data). The entries are DTC P179E (Drive position sensor electrical error), DTC P0700 with DFCC 20196 (Transmission control system malfunction), DTC P1758 with DFCC 8464 (Terminal 15 voltage supply open circuit), and DTC P060A with DFCC 8126, 8345 (Internal control module monitoring processor performance) In this scenario, if DTC P179E is not logged first, this TSB does not apply. Scenario 2 is that entries are logged individually or in combination. The order in which the DTCs are logged is not relevant. The entries are DTC P179E with DFCC 8050, 8051, 8052, 8053, 17595, 17596, 17597, 17598, 17602 (Drive position sensor electrical error), DTC P179F with DFCC 8054, 8055, 8056, 8057, 17599, 17600, 17601 (Drive position sensor malfunction), DTC P0716 with DFCC 8096, 8101, 18153, 20738 (Input turbine/speed sensor ?A? circ. range/performance), DTC P171F with DFCC 8097, 8102, 18154 (Transmission input speed (RPM) sensor 2 implausible signal), DTC P0715 with DFCC 8094, 8103, 18161 (Input turbine/speed sensor ?A? circuit.), DTC P2765 with DFCC 8095, 8104 (Input turbine/speed sensor ?B? circuit), DTC P0501 with DFCC 8098 (Vehicle speed sensor ?A? range/performance), and DTC P2159 with DFCC 8099 (Vehicle speed sensor ?B? range/performance). Fault codes and DFCC codes must match exactly for this TSB to apply. The DFCC is the 4-6 digit code that is typically listed before the fault code. Incorrect driving mode sensor module. |
