What is wrong

On certain vehicles, the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) control unit may be missing a weld holding a contact pin due to a manufacturing error. A missing weld could lead to a gradual increase in pin contact resistance, which could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Also, a loss of power steering assist could increase steering effort and increase the risk of a crash resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the EPS control unit.

Bulletins for the same vehicles and component
B3601212024-02-01. Service bulletin. At low outside temperatures (below 40 degrees F) and slow driving speeds (i.e. when parking, maneuvering)with a large steering angle, the front end can be slightly axially misaligned. This can be felt (jerking)/ heard via an acoustic acknowledgement (clunk) as seen at the 11 second mark of the video. See attached video V36 01 21.
B3202232024-02-01. Service bulletin. SITUATION Unusual noises occur only when operating the steering column in the axial direction. 1. A one-time thump sound at the start of movement Shortly after the steering column starts moving, retracting, or extending, a one-time thump noise is heard. See attached video V32 03 23 2. Humming noise while steering column extends in the axial direction. The sound is only heard when the steering column is extended, not when the steering column is retracted. When the steering column starts to move in the extended direction, the humming noise can be heard. See attached video V32 04 23
B3404142021-05-24. Service bulletin. Diagnosis of Compound Brake System Complaints in M Vehicles: 1. Visible cracks are caused by high thermal stresses during rapid heating and cooling of the brake discs. Braking from high speed with cold brake components (less than 212 degrees F) increases the likelihood of cracks to form.
B6109202020-04-20. Service bulletin. CHECK CONTROL MESSAGES FOR BRAKE SUSPENSION AND AIR BAG SYSTEM MALFUNCTION: Multiple check control messages (CCM) can display for brake suspension and air bag system malfunction. The customer may also complain about any of the following: Engine can no longer be switched off Drive position (D) cannot be engaged on the gear selector switch (GWS) Reduction of steering assist After an engine emergency shut-off (either a prolonged long press; or 3 consecutive short presses of the Start/Stop button) and the vehicle going to sleep (identifiable by the lighting of the "Start/Stop button") everything resumes normal functionality and the CCM messages no longer appear.
B3201152020-01-21. Service bulletin. NOISE WHEN ADJUSTING THE STEERING COLUMN UP OR DOWN: Creaking noise when raising or lowering the steering column position. CAUSE Steering column adjustment.
B1307152018-12-10. Service bulletin. "N57T - Automatic Start/Stop (MSA) Does Not Function. The MSA feature to shut the engine off does not function at any time, although it is set to active. The MSA test plan indicates that the ""engine stop"" inhibitor is currently active due to missing steering angle information. There are no relevant faults stored and the steering angle is calibrated correctly. CAUSE A communication error between the engine (DDE) and electronic steering (EPS) control units."
B6101162018-12-10. Service bulletin. The Windshield Wipers Come On Erroneously. The windshield wipers come on by themselves without activating the switch. This can happen at vehicle start or while driving. Communication error between the SZL (Steering Column Switch Center) and the JBBF (Junction Box Co Driver).
6603142018-11-13. Service bulletin. Steering Wheel Vibration Level Is Unacceptable. The vibration level produced by the steering wheel vibration actuator is too strong or too weak. This is only noticed when Lane Departure Warning (LDW) is triggered. CAUSE Vibration actuator in the steering wheel
B6119152018-11-05. Service bulletin. Grating or Scraping Noise When Turning Steering Wheel. There is a grating or scraping noise when the steering wheel is turned. The noise comes from the steering column switch cluster (SZL), coil spring or steering wheel. CAUSE When the steering wheel is turned, the connection between the steering wheel and the steering column switch cluster causes torsional stress, which creates a noise in the coil spring cassette.
B1307152018-11-05.

A bulletin is the manufacturer's note to its dealers. It is not part of this recall.
