| 04V120000 | 2004-03-08. STEERING:LINKAGES:DRAG:POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. ON CERTAIN TRUCKS AND TRUCK-TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH TRW DRAG LINK ASSEMBLIES, THE REPLACEMENT CLAMP AND DRAG LINK ASSEMBLIES CONTAIN A POTENTIALLY DEFECTIVE 5/8-11-GRADE B PREVAILING TORQUE HEX NUT. IF THE FINAL TIGHTENING IS LESS THAN 65 LB.-FT., THE CLAMP LOAD WOULD BE UNACCEPTABLY LOW AND COULD COMPROMISE THE INTEGRITY OF THE DRAG LINK. Built 2003-11-15 to 2004-01-12. |
2019-05-17. Brakes. Issue: Certain trucks were built with air reservoir tanks that are too small in relation to the size of the air brake chambers. Canadian regulations require enough air reservoir capacity to ensure the brakes work even with heavy use or when there is a partial loss of the air system. Safety Risk: Reduced braking could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a Daimler Trucks North America authorized service facility to modify the truck to ensure it meets Canadian regulations.

2017-12-18. Accessories. On certain vehicles equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. Note: For more information about recalled fire extinguishers, please visit www.kidde.com.
2011-09-19. Fuel System. On certain trucks, the plastic low-pressure fuel line between the engine-mounted fuel filter and the engine block may develop a diesel fuel leak. The location of the leak is unlikely to result in a vehicle fire; however, diesel fuel spilt on the roadway could endanger other road users by making the roadway unexpectedly slippery. This could ultimately result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the plastic low-pressure fuel line with a steel version.
2010-06-14. Steering. On certain twin-steer 4900SA vehicles, the spacer used to connect the aft steer axle idler arm to the frame rail may develop cracks and eventually break under severe steering conditions. This would allow the idler arm to separate from the frame rail, resulting in diminished steering control, which could lead to a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the tubular shaped spacer bracket with a solid spacer block.
2009-09-22. Engine. On certain vehicles equipped with a Caterpillar C15 engine, the Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) oil line may wear against the P-clip retaining the oil line. An oil leak could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Caterpillar dealers will replace the VVA oil line with an updated version.
2006-04-19. Suspension. On certain vehicles, the rear suspension transverse beam castings were not made to specifications. If a casting were to break when the vehicle is in motion, parts could become projectiles with potential to cause property damage, personal injury or death. Also, the transverse beam may drop down low enough to contact the road surface causing sparks that could ignite a fire. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transverse beams.
2006-02-09. Engine. On certain vehicles equipped with a Caterpillar engine, the Variable Valve Actuation oil line (VVA line) used on 6 cylinder, 15L turbocharged and air-to-air aftercooled diesel engines may wear against the sharp edge of the cylinder head if not oriented correctly. Oil line wear may cause an oil leak and a potential fire hazard. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the VVA line.
2005-10-18. Fuel System. On certain vehicles fitted with optional in-cab batteries, fuel lines may contact the cab power harness, resulting in chafe damage that could present a fire hazard. Correction: Dealers will reroute and secure the fuel lines.
2005-09-14. Steering. On certain vehicles, the front hubs may fracture and allow the wheel assembly to separate from the vehicle. This could cause a crash without prior warning. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the hubs.
2005-05-10. Heater And Defroster. On certain vehicles, burner tubes in the Webasto DBW 2010 Scholastic coolant heater may begin deteriorating at an accelerated rate and could fail. Burner tube failure could result in an increase in exhaust gas temperature which could ignite combustible material in or around the vehicle. Correction: Dealers will replace the burner tubes.
2004-12-08. Powertrain. On certain vehicles, bolt holes located on the earwork of the drive shaft male yoke were manufactured with an oversized thread diameter. This condition allows the bolts used in the holes to become detached which, in turn, could result in driveline separation. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the male shaft yoke subassembly.
2004-03-08. Steering. On certain vehicles, the TRW drag link clamp assembly may contain an improperly torqued hex nut. If the final tightening of this nut is less than 65 ft.lbs, the clamp load would be unacceptably low and could compromise the integrity of the drag link to the point where the ball socket could separate causing a loss of steering control which could result in a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealer will re-torque the drag link nut to between 70 and 85 ft.lbs.
