Service bulletins for the 2005 Volkswagen Passat
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

WHEELS; SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE; BACK OVER PREVENTION; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING; STEERING:STEERING WHEEL /HANDLE BAR:YAW/ANGLE SENSOR. After replacing a Bosch 5.7 ABS module, refer to the table below to determine correct module coding value based on vehicle PR codes. Listed login code must be entered under Access/authorization before coding is attempted. After completing coding, G85 steering angle sensor basic settings must be performed before cycling key. To perform G85 basic settings manually in Vehicle self-diagnosis (VAS PC) or Control Module OBD (ODIS), start by entering access/authorization code 40168. After code is accepted, turn steering wheel 1 turn left and back to center, one turn right, and then center steering wheel. Select basic settings and enter group 1. Once display changes to ?Sensor OK? or ?Calibration OK?, basic settings have been completed. Cycle key OFF and then back ON. Clear faults to verify repair. |
| TT450903 | 2023-07-10. Service bulletin. AIR BAGS; STEERING; SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:ELECTRIC:CONTROL MODULE; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; STEERING:RACK AND PINION:RACK. If, after replacement of the steering rack, fault code 01309 008 is set in the ABS/ESP module only, follow the test plan in GFF for Driver Steering Recommendation (DSR) or channel 3 activation. If the test plan fails to clear the fault, follow the direction below using Vehicle Self Diagnosis in Address Word 44 - Steering Assistance |
| TT450802 | 2023-07-10. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR/TONE RING; UNKNOWN OR OTHER. Fault code 02543 000 ?Brake Vacuum Sensor no Display? may be encountered in the ABS module. This may be caused by the hydraulic brake boost function (HBV) in adaptation value 61 being turned off (value = 0). All Passat Wagons (including 4motion) and 3.6L equipped sedans with front drive should have this function turned on (value = 1). Change the adaptation value and verify the fault has cleared. Additionally, it may be necessary to lock the vehicle and allow the modules to go to sleep to clear the fault. |
| TT201301a | 2023-07-10. Service bulletin. UNKNOWN OR OTHER; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM); FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER. To clear static ECM fault P1250 ?Fuel Level Too Low?, add fuel to vehicle and complete a road test of at least 10 miles. Simply adding fuel without completing a road test may not allow fault to clear. |

| TT321401 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Incorrect torque converter or flywheel/flexplate installation can result in transmission damage. When installing an engine, flywheel or transmission, please follow the installation procedures outlined in ELSA. For the flywheel/flexplate, please be certain the correct shim is installed between it and the crankshaft (reference VWIQ120). When installing a torque converter, press the torque converter hub through the seal as far as the first stop. Turn the torque converter while pushing toward the transmission using light force, until the cut outs in the torque converter hub lock into the pump wheel plate. The torque converter slides in. The torque converter is installed correctly if it is easy to turn by hand and if it fits evenly in the transmission bell housing. Additionally, it should spin freely when the transmission bell housing bolts are torqued to the engine block, prior to installation of the flywheel to converter bolts (reference VWIQ121). |
| TT271301 | 2023-07-05. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. When diagnosing a generator charging concern, it is recommended to verify operation of the one way clutch located in the generator pulley (if equipped) before replacing generator assembly. To check the one way clutch, remove the belt from the generator pulley and use a trim removal tool to hold fan blades inside generator, as shown below. When attempting to turn pulley by hand with fan blades held, pulley should spin freely in only one direction. If pulley spins freely in both directions, the one way clutch has failed and should be replaced before continuing diagnosis. |
