Service bulletins for the 2005 Volkswagen Passat
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

To perform G85 basic settings manually in Vehicle self-diagnosis (VAS PC) or Control Module OBD (ODIS), start by entering access/authorization code 40168. After code is accepted, turn steering wheel 1 turn left and back to center, one turn right, and then center steering wheel. Select basic settings and enter group 1. When diagnosing a generator charging concern, it is recommended to verify operation of the one way clutch located in the generator pulley (if equipped) before replacing generator assembly. To check the one way clutch, remove the belt from the generator pulley and use a trim removal tool to hold fan blades inside generator, as shown below. When attempting to turn pulley by hand with fan blades held, pulley should spin freely in only one direction. If pulley spins freely in both directions, the one way clutch has failed and should be replaced before continuing diagnosis. |
