Service bulletins for the 2017 Tesla Model 3

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

154 on file from NHTSA, as of 2026-10-19.

SB-18-31-0052018-07-16. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. On certain Model 3 vehicles, the front stabilizer bar link ball joint studs might crack at the flange. As a result, the nut that attaches the stabilizer bar might lose torque. This might result in noise coming from the front of vehicle while driving on rough surfaces.
SB-18-31-0042018-07-16. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. On some Model 3 vehicles, customers might state that the vehicle ride is too harsh. The ride tuning of early spring and damper assemblies is subjectively more firm than the ride tuning of updated assemblies.
SB-18-17-0032018-07-16. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. On some Model 3 vehicles, the solid-wire rear drive unit (RDU) ground strap might transfer motor vibration into the cabin. This might result in customer perception of high motor noise levels.
SB-18-40-0042018-07-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. On certain Model 3 vehicles, an issue in the CAN transceiver internal to the drive unit might result in intermittent communication errors, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode or not start.
SB-18-44-001 R22018-07-16. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL. On some Model 3 vehicles, an electrostatic discharge might damage the charge port ECU radio transceiver. As a result, an alert displays on the touchscreen, and the charge port door is unable to be opened using the button on a charger handle. The charge port door opens using other methods.
SB-18-16-001 R22018-07-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. On certain Model 3 vehicles, specific issues with the power conversion system (PCS) might prevent contactors from closing or cause the PCS E-fuse circuit to trip, leading to inability to recharge the 12V battery.
SB-18-18-0012018-07-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. On certain Model 3 vehicles, the 5-way valve actuator internals might wear prematurely, causing the actuator to become unreliable over time.
SB-18-44-001 R12018-07-16.
SB-18-31-0022018-07-16. Service bulletin. SUSPENSION. On some Model 3 vehicles, at 65 mph (105 km/h) and above, front upper control arm vibration might result in detectable cabin noise.
SB-18-15-0012018-07-16. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. An improved version of the Model 3 child safety switch in the underhood storage area now features a glow-in-the-dark button instead of a lighted button.
SB-18-40-0032018-07-16. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. On certain Model 3 vehicles, the rear drive unit gearbox fluid might leak into the printed circuit board cavity of the oil pump, causing the vehicle to go into limp mode.
SB-18-40-0022018-07-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. On some Model 3 vehicles, one of the bolts that helps to secure the rear drive unit inverter coolant manifold to the inverter housing might not have been installed. Consequently, coolant might leak from the manifold.
SB-18-16-001 R12018-07-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. On certain Model 3 vehicles, specific issues with the power conversion system (PCS) might prevent contactors from closing or cause the PCS E-fuse circuit to trip, leading to inability to recharge the 12V battery.
SB-18-44-0012018-07-16.
SB-18-33-0012018-07-16. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. On some Model 3 vehicles, the brake booster clevis pin might make a knock or rattle sound when the brakes are used. Vehicle braking is not affected.
SB-18-17-0022018-07-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Certain Model 3 vehicles might have increased resistance at ground terminals, and might not provide sufficient signal reference ground at specific connectors.
SB-18-16-0012018-07-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. On certain Model 3 vehicles, specific issues with the power conversion system (PCS) might cause the E-fuse to open, leading to the inability to recharge the 12V battery.
SB-18-40-0012018-07-16. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY. An improved version of the Model 3 rear drive unit is now available that meets Tesla's high standards for performance and durability.
SB-17-10-0042018-07-16. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE:BODY:TRUNK LID. Some Model 3 vehicles might have a crack in the trunk lid paint, that might allow water entry.
SB-17-17-0142018-07-16. Service bulletin. STRUCTURE. Certain Model 3 vehicles have thermal harness covers that might allow splashed water to ingress into the front body controller module, potentially resulting in diminished connection.
SB-17-18-0072018-07-16. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Some Model 3 vehicles might have coolant pumps that are noisy or make a rattling sound during operation.
SB-17-17-0042018-07-16. Service bulletin. EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS. While current headlights are adequate, an upgraded version improves upon them. Replace the current headlights with the new version.
