NOTE: The Airbag systems used on previous and current WRX, STI and Tribeca models are NOT equipped with EDR functionality. This Bulletin provides information regarding Event Data Recorder (EDR) functionality which has been incorporated into the airbag system. The function of the EDR is best explained using the following statements found in the vehicle Owner?s Manual: ?This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash-like situations such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in the understanding how a vehicle?s systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as: ? How various systems in your vehicle were operating; ? Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened; ? How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; ? How fast the vehicle was traveling. This data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur. |

| WQW-58R | 2018-04-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Subaru of America, Inc. has determined that vehicles affected by this Service Program require ECM reprogramming. This bulletin includes the service procedure for diagnosis and repair of customer concerns involving engine idle roughness or, in some cases, engine noise and/or damage resulting from spark knock (pre-ignition). The Engine Control Module logic has also been optimized requiring the ECM reprogramming. The new logic optimizes the ECM for control of the following parameters: * Change to Fuel Cut control when fuel level is extremely low / near empty * Change to improve idle smoothness / quality * Change to boost pressure control under wide-open throttle (WOT) conditions. Under certain high engine load driving conditions, spark knock can occur which results in elevated cylinder temperatures and pressures. Over time, excessive erosion of the spark plugs and possible damage to the pistons can be consequences of continued operation with these conditions present. |
| 12-189-15R | 2018-04-02. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT. This bulletin provides information about changes made to the rear shelf trim to address customer concerns of a rattling sound heard while driving over bumpy / rough roads. The sources of the rattle have been identified as: ? the mounting points for the center stop lamp where it fits into the package shelf ? the package shelf itself rattling against the inside of the rear glass ? the rib and/or stand portions located on the underside of the package shelf contacting the shelf portion of the vehicle body. |
| 12-207-16 | 2018-04-02. Service bulletin. VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR. This bulletin announces a change to the procedure used in production of the rear door glass assembly. The bottom edge of the door glass is pressed into a metal channel lined with rubber. The channel attaches the door glass assembly to the window regulator. In below-freezing temperature conditions, water freezing in the channel combined with the door glass sticking to the door weatherstrip can increase chance of the glass separating from the channel when attempting to operate (lower) the window. A lubricant has been added to the rubber portion to insure the glass gets fully seated during assembly which maximizes the clamping force of the channel on the glass. |
| 07-75-13R | 2018-04-02. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. This Bulletin provides information regarding DTC P0606 related specifically to the determination of this code on Forester Turbo and applicable WRX models. The engine management system is equipped with a back-up memory. When disconnecting the battery cables, this back-up memory is cleared. On Forester Turbo and applicable WRX models, after re-connecting the battery, if the ignition switch is turned back ?ON? within one minute after the first time the ignition is turned ?OFF?, it becomes possible for the CEL to illuminate storing DTC P0606 in memory. The code will not occur immediately, but may occur after a period of time depending upon how the vehicle is operated. |
| 02-170-17 | 2018-04-02. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. This bulletin announces part information for new Active Valve Control System (AVCS) oil control solenoid valves (OCV) which contain a redesigned internal oil seal. The new seal will eliminate potential oil seepage into the wire harness connector portion of the valve. If oil seeps into the connector, over time, the Check Engine lamp may illuminate and set various AVCS-related DTCs. |
