Service bulletins for the 2016 Subaru Legacy

A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

This bulletin provides a service procedure for installation of additional foam packing to enhance performance of the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor. The additional foam better insulates the sensor from engine compartment heat which may lead to setting a DTC P0072. This information is applicable to models with or without the Active Grill Shutter (AGS) system.

This bulletin announces part information for new Active Valve Control System (AVCS) oil control solenoid valves (OCV) which contain a redesigned internal oil seal. The new seal will eliminate potential oil seepage into the wire harness connector portion of the valve. This bulletin announces a change in the production procedure for the rear muffler assembly. Spot-weld locations securing the outer shell portion have been changed to improve overall rigidity. A gap may develop at the spot welded seam as a result of repeated thermal shock (heating / cooling) which occurs during normal use. The gap does not create an exhaust leak. In some cases, a rattling sound from the muffler may develop.
02-162-152017-02-27. Service bulletin. ENGINE. "THIS SERVICE INFORMATION BULLETIN ANNOUNCES A DESIGN CHANGE TO THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY. NICKEL PLATING HAS BEEN APPLIED TO THE INTERNAL SWITCH CONTACTS TO ENHANCE THEIR DURABILITY AND REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF POOR CONTACT WHICH COULD AFFECT OPERATION OR CAUSE IMPROPER ILLUMINATION OF THE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP. A SMALL PILOT PORTION WAS ADDED TO THE THREADED AREA ON P.N. 25240KA051 AS SHOWN IN THE ILLUSTRATION BELOW."
16-99-162016-12-27. Service bulletin. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL; ENGINE. "THIS BULLETIN ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF REPROGRAMMING FILES TO OPTIMIZE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) OPERATION AND ADDRESS THE FOLLOWING CUSTOMER CONCERNS: • ENGINE RPM “FLARE” (SHARP RPM INCREASE WHEN CVT “DOWNSHIFTS”) WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL ON UPHILL GRADES • CANCELLATION OF CRUISE CONTROL AS A RESULT OF RPM FLARE (DRIVER MUST RESET DESIRED VEHICLE SPEED). THIS NEW LOGIC CHANGES THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION TO AVOID UNEXPECTED CANCELLATION. "
07-89-15R2016-09-28. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL; EQUIPMENT:APPLIANCE:AIR CONDITIONER; ENGINE. "IF YOU RECEIVE A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF A NO CRANK / NO START CONDITION DURING VERY COLD TEMPERATURES, THE IG1, IG2, ACC1, ACC2 AND/OR THE EGI MAIN RELAYS MAY BE THE ROOT CAUSE AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. IT IS GENERALLY REPORTED THAT THE CAR STARTS NORMALLY AFTER AN OVERNIGHT SOAK. AFTER THE INITIAL START, THE CUSTOMER DRIVES A SHORT DISTANCE THEN SHUTS THE CAR OFF (EXAMPLE: AT A GAS PUMP OR COFFEE SHOP). AFTER THE TIME THAT IT TAKES TO PUMP THEIR GAS OR GET THEIR COFFEE, THEY RETURN TO THE CAR AND IT WILL NOT START. THE CUSTOMER MAY ALSO NOTICE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND/OR INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATING ALONG WITH THE HVAC BEING INOPERATIVE. THE SOURCE OF THIS CONDITION HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS CONDENSATION FLASH-FREEZING INSIDE THE RELAYS. THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES A SERVICE PROCEDURE FOR REPLACEMENT OF ALL 5 RELAYS, 4 OF WHICH ARE LOCATED TOGETHER IN THE VEHICLE’S INTERIOR FUSE BOX (F/B) AND THE EGI MAIN RELAY WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE UNDER-HOOD MAIN FUSE BOX (M/B).
