Service bulletins for the 2017 Porsche 911
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| 122-T7Y5Q-12 | 2017-12-14. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Information: This document updates information previously published in EQ 1105, EQ 1105, and EQ 1401. To provide stable voltage and sufficient current throughout certain service operations, you should connect the vehicle to a battery charger (sometimes referred to as a power supply). However, you may experience ECU programming and coding issues if the chosen battery charger has insufficient power. Many workshop manuals currently advise use of a battery charger with a 40 or 70 A current rating. However, with the increasing current requirements of modern Porsche vehicles, we recommend a battery charger capable of producing a minimum current of 90 A. |

| 122-T8T7L-12 | 2017-12-14. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY. Subject: Bleeder screw for front axle lift system Situation: There is a possibility that the bleeder screw for the front axle lift system was not tightened to the prescribed tightening torque on the affected vehicles. This can impair the function of the lift system. The error message "Error lift system" can then be displayed in the instrument cluster when the lift function is activated. |
| 122-J5M3M-11 | 2017-12-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. Concern: Vehicle is stored for a long period of time in the sun and heat, typically 30 days or more. Several cases of compressors seizing have occurred at PDI. Please use the procedure below during the PDI as a precaution. |
| 122-Y8J4E-11 | 2017-12-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER. Information: Debris from the production process can cause the check valves in the oil supply and return lines for the turbocharger to stick open. This allows either too much oil to enter or not enough oil to exit the turbocharger and will overwhelm the seal. Action required: DO NOT replace the turbocharger(s). Remove the pressure pipes from the turbochargers to determine which side is stuck open. Replace that line. |
| 122-U8F6U-10 | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. There is a possibility that the float in the coolant reservoir can stick at the lowest position due to unfavourable tolerances. If this happens, the warning message "Refill coolant immediately! Do not drive on" will be activated in the instrument cluster when the engine is at operating temperature. |
| 122-S4F9A-10 | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. STEERING; WHEELS. The features of the particularly sporty GT sports steering wheels in leather (I-no. 858) or Alcantara (XLL) include: ? Steering wheel diameter: 360 mm ? In conjunction with PDK: Gearshift paddles for changing gear manually ? Including multi-function operation and steering wheel heating (489) |
| 122-C5R5V-10 | 2017-11-08. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. During diagnostic monitoring of the hydraulic control valves of the PDK transmission, a fault memory entry is stored in the PDK control unit if an implausible shift rod movement is detected. The PDK control unit therefore initiates a flushing measure in order to flush particles of dirt determined as the cause of the fault out of the hydraulic control valves. As soon as the fault memory entry was activated in two consecutive driving cycles, there was a possibility with the previous diagnostic configuration that the message "Engine control fault ? visit workshop ? Driving permitted" would be displayed in the instrument cluster although the flushing measure had already been carried out successfully and a fault was no longer present. To prevent this from happening, the diagnostic function for monitoring the hydraulic control valves will be adapted accordingly. |
| 122-N9Z4L-07 | 2017-10-27. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY. Concerns: AGM starter battery (referred to below simply as 'battery') Situation: Support for the care andmaintenance of the AGMstarter battery (at the dealership): From the time the vehicle is delivered to the Porsche Centre until it is handed over to the customer, the battery must be maintained and charged regularly, depending on use. |

| 122-N9A9H-08 | 2017-10-25. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:COMPRESSOR. Concern: Vehicle is stored for a long period of time in the sun and heat, typically 30 days or more. Several cases of compressors seizing have occurred at PDI. Please use the procedure below during the PDI as a precaution. Information: The oil in the AC compressor can migrate out of the compressor. This is due to temperature variations between components in the AC system. |
| 122-M9M8F-08 | 2017-10-25. Service bulletin. ENGINE. General information: A parts kit is available for increasing the performance of the standard engine. Increased performance is achieved by implementing the following measures on the engine: ? New exhaust turbochargers (referred to hereafter as turbochargers) with larger turbine/compressor wheel diameters and a higher volume. ? Modified maps for the DME control unit. |
| 122-F6D4C-03 | 2017-10-25. Service bulletin. ENGINE. There is a possibility that the fastening screws for the fuel collection pipes on the affected vehicles can shear off due to stress corrosion cracking. If this happens, the high fuel pressure that builds up in the fuel injection system when the engine is running can press the relevant fuel collection pipe off the fuel injectors. This can cause a fuel leak in the engine compartment. Replace fastening screws for both fuel collection pipes. |
| 122-B6K8C-11 | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. With the introduction of the new Porsche Communication Management system (PCM 4.0), customers of vehicles with a navigation module will be provided with updated maps free of charge for a certain inclusive period as part of the Map Update service. Themaps will be updated for the first time in theMap Update service using an SD card as part of this workshop campaign. In the course of annual model improvements, various functionalities of the PCM have been enhanced, optimizations have been implemented and the general performance of the system has been further improved at the same time. These functional enhancements and optimizations must be implemented retrospectively even for vehicles manufactured before the model improvement measures were introduced. To this end, the PCM software will also be updated using an SD card. Due to the changes to the PCM, the instrument cluster must also be re-programmed using the PIWIS Tester in order to ensure consistency between the displays in PCM and the instrument cluster. |

Due to the changes to the PCM, the instrument cluster must also be re-programmed using the PIWIS Tester in order to ensure consistency between the displays in PCM and the instrument cluster. |
| 122-X8X4D-11 | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. ENGINE. The yellow warning message "Engine fan failure, Avoid full engine load, Driving permitted" appears in the multi-function display. Moisture seeping into the engine-compartment blower causes corrosion and the engine-compartment blower can fail as a result. |
| 122-W4G8S-10 | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. Technical Concern: By design, the vehicle gateway allows certain vehicle features to time-out, in stages. This allows the vehicle to sleep. One feature that can time-out is the 12 V DC power point (cigarette lighter) in the center console area. One of the recommended methods of using the battery maintainer is to plug the battery maintainer into this power point. If this power point becomes disabled, it will not allow current flow from the battery maintainer to the vehicle, the vehicle battery will not trickle charge, and the battery maintainer will eventually shut off. |
| 122-A7B9Q-10 | 2017-10-15. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL. Subject: Oil change service interval in the instrument cluster Information: The instrument cluster on the affected vehiclesmay have been coded with incorrect values for the service interval. As a result, the due date for the oil change service is displayed too late in the instrument cluster. Remedial Action: Re-code service interval |
| 122-D5Q7B-09 | 2017-09-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO/SUPERCHARGER. Information: Debris from the production process can get caught in the check valve in the oil supply line to the turbocharger and cause it to stick open. This allows too much oil to enter the turbocharger and overwhelms the seal. Beginning on 08.17.2016 an extra check for debris was implemented in production to avoid this issue in the field |
