| 19V733000 | 2019-10-15. VISIBILITY. PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2020 Peterbilt 579 vehicles equipped with a sleeper box. The conspicuity tape may have been installed in the incorrect location, affecting the vehicle's visibility to other drivers on the road. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." | 2022210 | 2022-04-25. Steering. Issue: On certain trucks, the fasteners that attach the steer arm to the steering knuckle may fail. If this happens, the steer arm could separate from the steering knuckle and cause a loss of steering control. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a Dana D-series steer axle. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. |
|---|---|
| 2021287 | 2021-05-14. Lights And Instruments. Issue: On certain trucks, the driver may be able to turn off the daytime running lamps (DRLs) while driving. Canadian regulations require that DRLs must stay on while driving, unless the headlamps or fog lamps are switched on. Safety Risk: Driving without daytime running lights could make the vehicle less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the vehicle software. |
| 2020090 | 2020-03-05. Electrical. Issue: On certain trucks, the battery cables to the jump-start terminal may be too long. As a result, the cables could contact and chafe against the left-front suspension leaf spring. If this happens, a short circuit could occur and cause the positive cable to overheat or melt. Note: This recall only affects trucks with a left-hand under-hood battery jumper terminal. Safety Risk: An overheated or melted battery cable could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer for an inspection of the jump-start terminal cables. If the cables are too long, they will be replaced. |
| 2019518 | 2019-10-15. Other. Issue: On certain trucks, the reflective conspicuity tape on the back wall of the sleeper box was installed in incorrect locations. Canadian regulations require the conspicuity tape to be placed in specific areas. Safety Risk: A truck that does not have properly placed conspicuity tape may be less visible to others. This could create an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Peterbilt dealer to install additional conspicuity tape on the back wall of the sleeper box, in the required locations. |
| 2019207 | 2019-04-26. Visual System. Issue: On certain trucks, the upper glass on the side mirrors may not be properly attached. This could cause the mirror glass to fall off or to hang from its wiring and block the lower convex mirror. Safety Risk: Missing or blocked mirrors will reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash. If the mirror glass falls from the vehicle, it could strike another vehicle or pedestrian. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their truck to a dealer to inspect the build date of upper mirror glass assembly. The mirror glass will be replaced as necessary. |
