Service bulletins for the 2016 Mazda Mazda3
A bulletin is a manufacturer's communication to its dealers, as NHTSA indexes it. The summary is NHTSA's. The document is the manufacturer's: read it at NHTSA. A bulletin is not a recall, and listing a model year does not mean every vehicle of it is concerned.

| 08-002-17-3312a | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. When monitoring the resistance of the air bag modules and pre-tensioner seat belts, the Mazda Modular Diagnostic System (M-MDS) may display a value of only 1/100th of the actual resistance value. This is caused by improper SAS control unit software. To eliminate this from occurring in the future, the SAS control unit software has been modified. |
| 04-003-17-3331a | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. SERVICE BRAKES. Some vehicles may experience a squeaking/grinding noise from the rear brake even after the brake pedal is released. Upon inspection, the caliper mounting support is corroded and one of the disc pad is abnormally worn out (A). This is caused by vehicle usage in an area using road salt. The surface of the mounting support may swell from corrosion causing premature disc pad wear and brake noise. To correct the problem, an improved caliper mounting support has been newly established as a service part. The anti-corrosion surface treatment has been changed from Zn to Zn-Ni plating. |
| 05-002-17-3355 | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. POWER TRAIN. Some vehicles may exhibit one of the following concerns: Sometimes the shifter may jump out of 3rd gear over a road bump when accelerating after deceleration at 25-40 mph (40-65 km/h) Hard to shift into 3rd, 4th, 5th, and/or 6th gear Shift lever vibrates when driving in 3rd or 4th gear. This is caused by inappropriate transmission internal parts. |
| 09-021-17-3356 | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL. Some vehicles may experience a rattle noise from the front door glass when driving with the window open approx. 1/2 to 4 inches (1 - 10 cm). The rattle noise may be caused by insufficient holding force of the glass run channel. To increase the holding force, the shape of glass run channel has been changed and non-woven pads have been attached to the glass run channel. |
| 09-017-17-3347a | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE. Please explain this to the customer before updating the software. If the customer agrees, turn off the tachometer display on the AD-Display tabin MAZDA CONNECT Settingsbefore performing the update. |
| 06-001-17-3307a | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. STEERING: STEERING WHEEL/HANDLE BAR. Some vehicles may exhibit wear/peel-off of the leather steering wheel surface causing a poor appearance. This concern may be caused by an insufficient wear resistance of the steering wheel surface. |
| 01-005-17-3305a | 2017-10-21. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:MECHANICAL. Some vehicles may exhibit oil residue on the engine front cover from seepage around the joint portion (A) between the cylinder block and head. It becomes very noticable with dust adhesion. In some cases, the area of oil residue extends down to around the joint portion (B) between the engine front cover and the oil pan. This may be caused by oil escaping from a fine clearance created at the sealant applied to joint (A) between the cylinder block (B) and head (C) when the engine was pressurized during leak testing on the engine assembly line. |

In most cases you will find that the Bulb Seal No. 1 (A) or HID Bulb Seal No. 1 (B) and Bulb Seal No. 2 (C) socket covers have not been correctly installed or are missing due to improper prior repairs (i.e., customer replacing the headlamp bulbs or body shop not transferring them when replacing the headlamp unit(s) due to a collision). Any damage caused by missing socket covers, HID module seal (D), or missing bumper brackets (E) is not covered by warranty policy. |
| 09-035-17-3080 | 2017-10-04. Service bulletin. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL. In accordance with Federal regulations, follow the procedure listed below when replacing a speedometer. NOTE: Tampering with a motor vehicle odometer is strictly prohibited by Federal, and State laws. It is the dealer?s responsibility to comply with Federal, State, and local laws concerning odometerand related documentation requirements when providing a repair or replacement. Mazda vehicles are manufactured with tamper-proof speedometers. When a speedometer is replaced, the new speedometer will read zero (0) miles. This procedure is extremely important to accurately represent actual vehicle mileage. Prior to speedometer removal, complete the information required on the ?SpeedometerReplacement Label?.Labels can only be ordered through Mazda eStore. In an effort to achieve a higher level of Customer Experience and retain the value of Mazda?s vehicles, MNAO Warranty Operations is allowing all Mazda dealers to utilize a third party, SPECMO Enterprises, Inc., for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) odometer setting service. With the use of SPECMO?s services, a Mazda dealer can get the odometer setting updated to reflect the correct mileage at the time of replacement for both warranty and customer pay repairs, therefore resulting in a higher level of customer satisfaction. Since odometer setting service is not part of the warranty repair, it is not warrantable nor required, but optional. However, Mazda Warranty policy provides after- warranty assistance (AWA) or DSA that can be utilized to cover this service expense. |
| 09-012-17-3334a | 2017-10-04. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:RADIO/TAPE DECK/CD ETC.; STRUCTURE. Please explain this to the customer before updating the software. |
| SSPA3 | 2017-09-14. Service bulletin. TIRES:TEMPORARY/EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) on certain 2015-2016 Mazda3 vehicles built from January 5, 2015 through October 9, 2015. On certain subject vehicles, the air pressure of the spare tire may be lower than the specification. Dealers are to check the spare tire air pressure, and adjust the air pressure as necessary. The spare tire air pressure check and adjustment must be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner. NOTE: Spare tire inflation pressure check is included in PDI procedures. This campaign expires March 1, 2017. |
| SSPA2 | 2017-09-14. Service bulletin. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) on certain 2014-2016 Mazda3 vehicles built at the Mexico plant from December 4, 2013 through September 23, 2015. On certain subject Mazda3 vehicles, the concentration of engine coolant filled at the plant may not be appropriate, which could reduce the cooling or heating performance. With the deterioration of cooling performance, the coolant temperature may increase at high engine load, and a warning light (high engine coolant temperature warning light) may flash or illuminate, resulting in the engine possibly overheating. Dealers are to check the concentration of engine coolant, and replace the coolant if necessary. The check and repair must be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner. This campaign expires March 1, 2017. |
| MT-010-17 | 2017-08-25. Service bulletin. EQUIPMENT; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL. Some customers may claim that it is impossible or difficult to view the Active Driving Display, even if the position of the display is adjusted through the Settings screen. This is caused by an incorrectly learned zero-point (closed position) of the Active Driving Display. The main reason this happens is because an object (e.g. gloves, paper, etc. ) was placed in the storage area where the mirror and optical receiver are housed. If an object is detected (i.e., jammed) when the Active Driving Display closes after switching the ignition OFF, the system determines this as abnormal and stops the closing operation, leaving the Active Driving Display in an open position. When the engine is started the next time, correction of the zero-point is automatically performed. If the object is still in the storage area during the correction, the system learns the incorrect position as the zero-point. As a result, the zero-point position largely deviates from the standard position; therefore, it becomes impossible to view the Active Driving Display from the normal view position. |
The summaries are NHTSA's. Each bulletin's page links NHTSA's copy of the manufacturer's document.
